I know I'm probably way out in left field here. But what about a ka24de 200hp swap? Now... its not a sr20, however, its legal, will pass inspection and isn't turboed and could easily be boosted over 300hp. Now someone please set me straight for talking out of my ***.

the NA is what i plan on doin. daunt said i could be over 200 w/ his NA work, plus cams and pulleys. he doesn't do those things in his NA work. just compression, pistons i think, rebuilt motor, JWT ECU, etc etc. talk about a sleeper

Well first get a car. Then engine and swap all comes down to preference.Second, you say: "isn't turboed and could easily be boosted over 300hp"....how can you 'boost' a non turbo car....you need a turbo to even have 'boost.'I'm assuming you're going off afterdark tuning's site. Well the price of the 200hp ka w/install is $3500The price of a red top SR that has 205hp w/install is $3900

not that much of a difference and the hp figures will be in favor of the SR and in the long run the SR will have more potential then the ka.

you're right about the potential. but for me, i seriously dont need the crazy power of a turbo'ed car. i seriously would do sumthing stupid and kill myself. i mean it'd be awesome to have boost, but i would rather stay NA and beat alot of cars thinkin i will be very very slow cause i ain't turbo. again i say, what a sleeper : )

As far as I know, putting a turbo on your KA is illegal as well. It will not pass emmisions. especially here in CA. (but again I could be wrong)

Because with the raised compression of the motor I will be selling, it will explode when you put a turbo on it. If you want a turbo, go turbo, this is an alternative to a turbo. : ) Its not easy to make a 300hp N/A 4 cylinder, ask the guys at Rebello or Sunbelt, I'm doing the 200hp thing for people who do autocrossing or just street drifting or what not, want more power and still have a daily driver. It will also pass emissions to my knowledge at this point, and be a legal swap, so who knows, we'll see. : )

so in a hypothetical situation, ten years from now I have my 91 240sx with a complete kit, detailed, rims exhaust you name it. I get caught doin a buck twenty on the highway officer nutguggers pulls me over and pops my hood... what happens when he sees the sr20.

Ya, here in California a turbo and most things are illegal unless it's CARB certified, which almost nothing is. Turbo KA is illegal, SR20DET is illegal. I think the SR would be better because it at least looks stock, i've heard of people smogging it and passing CHP's inspection because it says "Nissan Intercooled Turbo".

I think when the stock ka goes ill just buy a new ka24de and supe it up etc. Because it helps to know certain people but not many like that around here.
