So yesterday my housemate danica (not her real name) went out to take her bf to work. Our other friend was over that day with his motorcycle and they both left together. She was following him and driving a little 2f2f. She really is a good driver, has a great feel for the road and her car's physics (drives a 2007 wrx, so maybe it's more the car) but is a little nieve in the other aspects of driving. For example, we've had a good amount of snow/icy weather a few weeks a go so she still had her blizzaks on the car. I've been telling her for weeks she needs to put her new wheels/tires back on but i guess she's been busy.
Anyway, she takes a downhill sweeping turn way too fast, finishing up passing my friend on his motorcycle (trying to rub in the fact that her car is quicker then his bike). Although she rarely drives this spirited, I imagine the wrx could have handled it if executed correctly with the right conditions, but it didnt go that way. She braked waaay late while in the turn and started sliding (its a quick downhill left hander into a slightly banked wider downhill right). She's probably taken that turn at that speed before, just forgot she wasn't on the best tires for the mistake she made.
Car spins left, she corrects it but she's already into the downhill righthander. A little bit of an overcompensation to turn into the right and the blizzaks cant hold anymore. She went off the road sideways crossing the other lane at about 70mph, passenger side wheels lifted about a half a foot off the ground while going over, taking out 2 or 3 [->] signs on the way over. Theres about a 2 foot drop into a rock filled ditch on the other side of the road which she flies off the road into, completely airborne. Two rolls later the car comes to a stop. on the wheels (luckily).
Everyone made it out of the car okay with minor bumps and bruises, super lucky considering how worse it coulda been. Car, however, was totaled. Just wanted to remind you guys know how easy it is for something unexpected to happen and how important it is to keep up on your vehicle's roadablilty.
Be careful out there.
