if the engine was rebuilt and its still leaking oil i'd bet they did a crappy job at putting it back together. i'd look around some more, and dont be afraid to wait and save some more cash. dont settle on the first car you find.

if this is a first car1. you dont wana swap anything yet cause your gona be learning how to drive...and a swap is like $2000+2. if your gona do a swap, it should be a 5-speed3. dont settle for anything, but i would get something in the sense of a beater car before you get something nice.

yeah, i agree, if its your first car i would take some time learning the basics before i straped into a rocket. and do look around, i picked up a 95 240 se for 4500. mechanically in great shape, just needed new plastic inside, which wasnt much. plus: is this your fist major project on a car? If it is. I dont think I would start off with a motor swap. I think i'd start with smaller stuff and make sure you will be able to do it yourself. so basically slow down and dont waist your money like i did. buy a good car the first time. not the third.

check around the oil pan first. if it looks like it's seeping from behind the crank pulley, it's an easy fix. The front crank seal. If it's coming from the front cover to the oil pan...it may not be worth the trouble.

I would definitely consider looking around, I have been looking at 240s for 2 years now, but i bought a saturn as my first car. Strictly for the reason of learning how to actually handle a car and it was only $400 lol. Now i am saving up for a 240 b/c i understand that cars a machines and must be treated like one. The bigger they are the more dangers they become.
