I'm going to put an SR in my 93 240 and am wondering what is the best way. Should I

A) just drop in the motor and add in parts later after the motor has had a chance to break itself in

or

B) drop in the motor with all of the modifications (my aim is around 325-350 hp) at the same time?

I know it's all up to me, but I didn't know if there were any pros or cons of doing it this way

Thanks

Sean

I would drop the motor in stock, and then add the modifications bit by bit. It is alot easier to trouble shoot that way.

since the motor is out of the car right now, you might as well upgrade to a cosmetic headgasket, like tomei or something. its 10x easier when the motor is out of the car rather than in...

Cometic is a headgasket manufacturer, not a type of gasket.

With the engine out of the car replace all seals that will be terrible to replace later like the rear main seal and front main seal. Get the engine running in your car. Then go for the power adders.

Its hard to diagnose why an engine will not start if it has a bunch of mods done because they could all be a reason why the engine doesnt run correctly or at all.

if you title your thread, "Just a noob with another annoying question" how can you expect people to read it?.........well I guess I did haha... but still.

Do your work while your engine is out of your car. Save yourself the time, money, and stress.

Adrian, no worries. I have been making the exact same mistake. I think I always used to read it wrong also, because I was so confused when so many people wanted to put cosmetic headgaskets on their cars. I was always like ... double you tee eff!?!?! Why would you want a colourmatched gasket??? I UNDERSTAND NOT. And then I googled it, and it corrected the spelling to cometic, and I realized what a jackass I was.

i would build it outside of the car, much easier to work on. but i bought my car w/ the sr swap done already so i'm modding while its in the car. depending on were u get the sr at it'd be nice to know how it was running b4. like if it was from another nico member who had already swapped it and it ran fine. if u import than u dont know how it ran b4 and modding it like crazy might make ur prob harder to detect. but i would still build it b4 u drop it in. just make sure ur engine is mint and all the parts are installed correctyl and it should be no probs
