Well as some of you know i had some clutch problems. The pedal wouldn't not pop back up as easily as it used to a few days ago and then yesterday it wouldn't pop back up at all. Anyways I got some help and did some research and people mentioned it might be the slave cylinder or my dampener box so i checked the slave cylinder resevoir to see if it was low on fluid just for the hell of it and it turned out it was very very low, like almost bone dry.

So i took a trip to the local advanced auto store with my uncle who swears that clutchs don't need fluid and asked a few of the staff at advanced to prove him wrong, well turns out they didn't know what the hell i was talking about i asked two salesman at the counter that looked like they knew something about cars and asked whats the best fluid to use for my clutch and they had no clue what i was talking about, so they asked someone that knew something about imports and he said brake fluid would work like i thought, but i second guessed myself. So when i got how with the brake fluid i filled the resevoir up and bled the system because because the resevoir was so low air got in the system causing my clutch to lose pressure. Anyways to end a long story short and get to the point if you feel your clutch pedal is loose check the fluid level in the resevoir before you go through the trouble of changing out your slave and damper box because the case might be the previous owners had no idea you needed clutch fluid in the slave cylinder because 240s are among the few cars that need it. I live in a city were imports are sort of frowned upon so maybe people here think its odd to have hydraulic fluid for a 5spd transmission or maybe i just asked the wrong people, anyways I hope no one goes through my little mis hap.

that should be the first thing you check is the fluid. hydraulic slave trans, pretty sure it always use brake fluid it also states it on the cap on what fluid to use dot 3 or something like that

unless you have cable slave cylinder/trans like the old school honda's then you adjust the cable

Oh and a heads up for you, if you have low fluid all of a sudden you most likely have a leak somewhere. Check your master cylinder and hardlines. I'll even give you a hint, its attached to the transmission. Noticing your car is on 20 inch ugly, laughable wheels and 4x4 stock suspension you could probably wedge your 100lb frame under it and check without jacking it up.

I say this only because I have 0 faith in your ability to properly jack up/jack stand a car.

I'm pretty sure there's information about this in the owners manual.

So fail on OPs part.

Now he's going to say his car doesn't have one. The information is definitely in the FSM.

Hey OP, I use to live around the Savannah area and people there are as dumb as rocks when it comes to 240's. Hell, when it comes to anything. They don't appreciate anything that doesn't have atleast 24 inch rims on it.

i agree with others, dont be so harsheverybody lives and learns, everyone was a noob at one point

the only thing i recommend for the op is to read the fsm and the many write-ups available on nico, zilvia, and other 240sx sites. I havent touched my transmission, but after reading so much i feel i know so much before even taking a wrench to my car. But this summer im going nuts so ill have some learning to do myself.

I agree that we all were supernoobs at one time, but to post on a car enthusiast website a "tip for ka 5speed owners" to check your fluids is just stupid. Thats practically the equivalent of saying "Just a little tip to car owners, make sure you put gas in that little hole on the side of your car every once and a while.

ooooh don't forget windshield wiper fluid either! sucks when you run out and a bird s***s on your windshield

in all seriousness though, thumbs up to the op for going out and learning on his own, but yeah, i must agree with everyone. it is like posting a thread to tell the tale of a revalation you had when you figured out how to pump gas. lol. +1 visser003

I'm pretty sure everyone whos posted on here knows something that one of the other guys doesnt or have done something one of us hasnt. That being said. Some people just overlook the obviouse. It happens. I'm sure I could call quite a few people noobs when they ask how to replace pistons and rings, and build a SR20 head, or wire up a car. some people spend more time then others with cars and learn more s***. Atleast he learned something unlike most car owners who pay some a$$ to do their work for them.

Damn. I run an Advance Auto Parts. But my guys are pretty good. Most are ASE. But anyways, the other guy is right. If your fliud was really low, you have a leak. More than likely the slave cylender itself. But it could be a rusted hard line or fitting. The best way you could find it is to top off your resivoir, pump the clutch pedal a few times, and start at the end of the system (slave cyl.) and work your way back to your resivoir looking for seaping fluid. If your lines are dirty, you may want to wipe them clean first so you can see if they are leaking.

Wow! This is my first time checking this post for the replies and damn i must say i am getting mixed replies. I'd like to say to all the people that commented nicely thank you for not being ***holes. As for the f***tards that put some really disrespectful s*** you can all f*** yourselfs because you didnt really understand what i was getting at. I know enough about cars to install my own s*** so It is safe to say that I am not a newb, this post was to people who just bought their 240s that has a standard to check their s*** because apparently not everyone knows about clutch fluid, hell I guess i am a dumbass because i never owned a 5 speed and just found out it takes hydraulic fluid. I am 17 by the way and have been working on cars for two years, ive done my own body work,i've replaced power steering pumps, belts, altenators(don't think i spelled that right),drum brakes, disc brakes, regulators, motor mounts, and i've also helped rebuild a 302. So yeah im not a newb so f*** off to all you haters!

Not for checking the fluid, but for relying on advance auto guys to answer any question other than how to install plastic spinners on steelies...

Geeze if you guys think people are dumb when it comes to 240s. Try getting parts for an SC. Some reason my Luxury supra can only have over priced toyota parts.... but seriously I had the same problem driving home from a funeral. Pulled over bought some break fluid, next day replaced the master slave cylinder.
