I bought our 93 a month or so ago. $1800, 158,000 mile rich Chicago suburban 2 owner car. Some receipts show some work done. Other than some nitpicky things the car runs great. It seems its 2nd owner was a college student who seemed to take care of it and then traded it in on a newer Saturn upon graduating. (Scary but my wife was able to look on Google Earth and see both of the previous owners VERRRY nice homes).
Reason to buy a used car: my youngest started driving and his older brother was on my old 86 Lincoln Towncar but away at college so I just "assumed" he would be put on the Lincoln. No way! they put him on our 08 Volvo XC70 and our insurance doubled! So I tried to tell them they both would be using the Lincoln and the ins. co. would have none of that. So I found it would be significantly cheaper to actually have another "beater". Enter the J
Well since we had it, I knew that when college boy came home, he would want to do some road trips during break and the Linc. would not be up for it. So I gave my Jeep a rest and put over 400 miles on the J to learn the quirks and see if she was ok. Wow. I do love the car and if I didn't have my 07 Wrangler. I would try to find a newer low mile J for my daily driver. I didn't want to give it up but I feel he's safe in it and he has always driven a rear wheel drive so that's not a problem. The only thing he will complain about is the premium gas. He is sad about the giving the Lincoln up (He really thinks it's cool to have his Grandpa's old car and unique among his rich friends who have nice but boring "safe" cars and SUV's.) He came home yesterday and was introduced to the J and I told him he could choose, as the Linc is "really" his. I think after a couple rides that the J won him over.
Thanks for all your help so far and I gave my mechanically challenged son a list of things to watch for that I saw from our forum so I can fix them before they get too expensive. I will keep you posted. Thanks for letting me share a J moment with you all.
