This is just my opinion, but I've always been one of those that thinks a first car should be inexpensive and not the prettiest thing on the block. I'm 19 and I started out at 16 on a 1980 Station Wagon before moving up to a 1994 Accord and now my 2003 Nissan Altima. Parents have never paid a penny on any of my vehicles. Start out with something that is practical and easy on the wallet and then move up to the Altima Coupe once you can comfortably afford it. That's what I would do, not necessarily what I'm telling you to do.WelfareBoy wrote:I've yet to receive my N license (for all you non-Canadians, its the license after the Learners and before the full license)but I've already been thinking about my first car (I'm 17 btw)So I have a few questions;
Would the A/C been a good first car?Would it be unreasonable to look for a 2.5S model with all the packages for around 20k?Would the insurance destroy me?How much would the purchase and installation of the Stillen front fascia and side skirts & HID lights cost?
I am a secondary school student that just got accepted into the University of British Columbia, so I have tuition fees to consider too, now would this all be out of reach for me?
P.S Anyone around the Vancouver area know if there are shops selling the Stillen fascia and skirts?
I need to be slapped by reality with how possible this all is to buy so I dont go dreaming for too much, but that doesnt mean you get to flame me thanks!
Very well said... makes me feel less dumb after reading the 2nd post.Canadian Coupe wrote:

I don't believe the Altima Coupe would be a good first car especially going to post-secondary at the time. Prices on the Coupe up here in Canada are insane; I'm paying over 40 thousand for my loaded 3.5 when I get it.. I think a 2.5 with all the packages would be closer to 30 thousand up here. The Fascia and HID's together would set you back under 1000.00 to get em shipped.
I believe you have to get the Stillen products shipped.
Yes it would be a good first car, no you wont get it for 20K, your 17 driving a 25-30K brand new car, and have an N or G2 license, and assuming you are a male driving a two door coupe, you might as well bend over and let the insurance company fist you every month, as least you would here in Ontario. Insurance wise you have everything going against you, I would not be in the least surprised if your insurance payments are more then the monthly car payments.WelfareBoy wrote:I've yet to receive my N license (for all you non-Canadians, its the license after the Learners and before the full license)but I've already been thinking about my first car (I'm 17 btw)So I have a few questions;

It teaches you good life values. Besides; it's a lot more rewarding when you purchase something that is a direct result of your own hard work. My friends parents are loaded as well, for his 17th birthday they bought him a brand new BMW M3 - two months later he nails a light pole after peeling out of a parking lot.WelfareBoy wrote:Thanks for all your input guys I forgot to put in my first post that I'm planning on buying a used A/C in Seattle,but I'll probably just persuade my mom to keep her Volvo so I can drive it (she's planning on selling it for a new Volvo)
....Sigh, my parents are actually loaded, but they refuse to spend any money on me after I turn 18 (which includes car, tuition, etc)
This kid is spoiled rotten; actually beyond spoiled rotten.sc_coupe wrote:holy crap!!!! an m3- brand new? now that is a little over the top. my A/C is kinda my first car, but i'm paying for it pretty much by myself minus a few $k.
