There are now hacks and prom burning tools for serveral GM ECM's, people are using them as complete programmable standalone engine management with very little $'s invested. They are being used on everything from VW bugs, to 2002 BMW's, to toyota supras. The intale/fuel is pretty easy I can figure that out. There is even one hacked code from the turbo sunbird that works with a 3 bar MAP sensor. The challenge is in the ignition. Does anyone have a link with detailed info on the KA's distributor/ignition setup?

sounds interesting, how would it reprogram. Does it install in line with the stock ecu or make a new chip

You buy a chip(prom) emulator for $150 then you hook your laptop to it with a shareware program and you can adjust every, more so that with an aftermarket standalone.

The trouble is finding a distributor for the KA24 that works with the GM ECM, it needs to be a magnetic pickup distributor.

Could you adapt an MSD (or other brand) crank trigger wheel to fit? I was about to for my Holley Commander 950, but got the distirbutor to work with it because it has a Hall effect setting.

So you got the Holley commander to work with the Nissan distributor? Did you use a standard hall effect setting on the Holley Commander, or was it a special configuration? I didnt know the Nissan is Hall Effect, I think there is a way to convert a hall effect signal to simulate a magnetic pickup

Well....it's not running so I'm not 100% sure it's working, but it does spark. I'll know in a few weeks if I can get off my lazy ***. I just set it for Hall Effect...no special configuration. Just switched to the S13 distributor.

I'm not sure what else it could be besides Hall effect....it's a little more complex in that it has 1 degree slots AND 90 degree slots where most have just the 90 degree. I just left that wire out (the 1 degree) and it's at least getting a signal and it has fired, just hasn't caught yet. But, I think that's because I didn't have the exhaust, O2 sensor, IAC, or all vacuum lines plugged properly (I was just testing to see if it was getting fuel and spark).
