hello. I plan on making my 240 go turbo in the future (i.e. when college is no longer sapping me of 100% of my funds :( )

but the thing is... even after college, insurance, rent, and gas are going to ream me for most of my money, then my GF for the rest....

So, im thinking of cutting costs as much as possible, and going the junkyard route with the turbo.

Quesitons are:

Is it possible to aquire all parts needed (aside from special manifold) from a junkyard??

about how much for a decent junkyard setup aiming at about 6-10psi tops?

and last but not least

any other tips you got and want to share?

TIA!

You could get a turbo off a junked car...but used turbos are always a risk.An intercooler can most definitely be sourced from a junked car. starions and bid turbo deisel trucks are excellent donor sources. The intercooler piping can be made pretty cheaply, but you won't just find it, it has to be made.Injectors you can get from an sr20det. they aren't super hard to find and can be had pretty cheaply. The manifold DEFINITELY has to be purchased somewhere as it is motor specific, you could try your luck with ssautochrome, they have like 300 dollar manifolds or something, but it is rumored that their quality is lacking.you will also need a custom downpipe.you can get something like a stock dsm blow off valve, that will work fine.

as for fuel management, a used safc should do fine.

soo....turbo = junkyard(but risky)manifold = buy itinjectors = find online usedintercooler = junkyardi/c piping = junkyard/custombov = junkyardfuel management = buy used

i would say it could possibly be done for under a 1000dollars if you shop right.but once you throw in couplings and other random crap like oil feed lines to the turbo etc i would say closer to 1500

Add, inovate wide band o2 to that, its 350 shipped. Its to tune your car. It sounds like alot but, you will easily spend that on a couple of dyno sessions, plus you have peace of mind your car is running right.

Cool deal, sub $1000 is what im shooting for for what i'd say is a decent amount of boost.

I dont want to go too fast, just enough that i dont have to wonder when most cars pull up to a light and revv at me. ( usually only go up to the speed limit [usually 40mph] anyways, just fun to see who pulls the best off the line :D )

But i'd also like to be able to hold my own fairly well at a real drag strip.

That and I'm thinking of learning some real racing on a track later on after i've gotten aqcuainted with EL TURBO! and made the suspension rather decent.

Be kinda odd learning on NA then suddenly switching over to turbo. Figured it'd be easier to learn in a consistent environment :)

Thansk for the info! much appreciated!
