First off, I am a 240 guy. This is my first time investing in a car to just toss out after i get what i want. I am yanking the engine and front brakes from a 91 Q45. I have looked through the WTB's and FS threads here seeing what kind of "demand" there is for this car. I am trying to get rid of the car with minimal money out of my pocket (because I am greedy just like everyone else!) Now, pull a part only pays .09 on the pound which after I take the parts off could only lead to around 300 bucks. Does anyone know of a better place to get rid of the car? I have called multiple "junk your car" folks on craigslist with the best price being 180. I need to know if the market for any sort of buyers is out there for me to have reason enough to part it out. I am paying very little for the car, and I would prefer to part it out since I know very well that I will have better prices for anything than any other shop. Opinions are greatly appreciated.

Well the days of parting out a Q45 are gone unless its parts that 240SX people can use like you. But even they don't want to pay much for the parts. I have been parting out a 1991 Q45 for a little more than TWO YEARS so the market is slow.

If you can get the car super cheap (Less than $500) go for it otherwise let it go to someone who can restore the car.

Plus we had a new member join NICO and sell some parts that weren't described correctly and were broken pretty much. The member lost out on $150 and the seller got away free. Gone are the days where Greg would come to the Q45 forum and jump all over the scammer I think.

Hate to be negative but thats the way the economy is.

Is it a Q45a?

Any pictures?

I've got pictures from the guy I got it from. Just a couple outside and one from the driver side inside looking in. Q45a? Running the vin only shows a Q45, so I don't think so. I gotta read the post about how to post pics, I'll post 'em up after that.

I actually got the car pretty cheap ($300). I know the economy is slow, that's why I was waiting on a reply from someone like you, someone who has been at it for a while. I expect that the local pull a part paying 9 cents to the pound will get me about what I paid for it after I get what I want, but I hate thinking they will make out like a fat rat on the parts sales when I could sell much cheaper. Sucks, for everyone hunting parts and me, since I haven't found a local place to store it.

Well the seats will sell fast!

Its not a Q45a unless it was converted or the center console was changed over and they forgot the Active Suspension switch.

Grab some pictures of the engine, trunk and back seat area and I will see if I need anything.

That's what I was thinking when I first saw the seats, they looked great for their age. I've already got a couple pictures of the engine bay but the engine I plan to keep. You still want to see it? I'll have to get the pics of the back seats and trunk later, I'm out of town for a bit and away from it all. If you think it might suit me better to part it out, I'll just start moving all this info over to the Parts FS threads. Don't wanna piss off the mods ya know?!!

Just remember I've spent $2,000 so far this year on my way to an annual $3000 and I still have a windshield and front shocks to replace.

But nothing like the feeling of a LONG last weekend trip in NC mountains:

I didn't see another Q [90-96] in 1000 miles of driving in 3 states and still got 19.7 mpg [on premium] and used 1/3 quart of oil with 327,600 miles.

Looks like a fun road to travel!!! Do you find that your Q uses more oil on extended higher speed road trips than around town type driving?

What was wrong with the car? It looks way too nice in the pictures to be a $300 parts car.

Same interior as my last Q, but the driver seat is way better looking. Clean car right there. How many miles on the ODO?

I'll answer all PM's shortly. Just FYI to all those wanting to buy parts, the number one issue with being able to part out this car is finding a place to store it. I'm located in Athens, GA, if any of you are or know someone in the area that could lead me in the right direction I could start posting this in the parts for sale thread. I will NOT start selling from this thread, but I will bear in mind those that have requested parts should I find a place to store the car to part it out. Heath, the original owner stated it "jumped time" but after reading about the timing chain issues with the earlier models like this one, I believe that's what the problem really is. He said the city is trying to fine him for having the car sit in his driveway so he really needs to get rid of it. ANY help finding a place to store cheap or free locally will help a great bit. Thanks guy!

If the timing chain jumped off -- proceed with caution -- you might not have much of an engine remaining to yank out for anything other than a part out..

Yeah, that's what I was figuring. If I can't find a place to store the car then I know I can take the brakes off and just sell it to pull a part while still getting the brakes and making a few bucks. I prefer to have the option though to see the condition of the block and internals. I'd like to think it may be possible to save the engine, but if I can't, parting it out wouldn't make me feel like the investment was a bad one since after all, I will have the brakes.

Looks like a good place to have a meet to me.. Actually, my other car club has an annual meet and TOTD drive there each year.. That drive gives you a reason to have road hugging sway bars and good brakes..

In June, I drove over 2,400 miles round trip to a car club meet in Sedona AZ. Some members drive from as far away as Rhode Island and Maine to make that one..

Alright folks, good news. I found a free place to store the car. I will only store the car for one month after I get back home. I will be starting a new thread in the parts for sale forum next Friday or Saturday (the 13th or 14th). I will not be keeping the car for long so any parts needed from it should be specified in that forum once I post it up. Like I said before about parts and messages already received, I will bear in mind what has already been requested on a first come first serve basis. If I do not reply to your request right away please be patient, I will NOT be back in town (with the car) for any pictures requested until the 12th. Thank you for your help and I hope to be returning the favor when I get back home.

To all those following this listing, please accept my apology. I had plans with the owner to come pick this up on Friday. Apparently (from his story) the police department in his area told him if he didn't get rid of it that day he would be fined $500. Since I am out of town I was unable to stop this from occurring. When I find another one, I will let you all know. SORRY guys, this thing was in the bag and this guy flaked on me with some bogus story.
