I have started to get a big "clunk" from the back of my car. I know it must be the spare/jack. I have opened up the back twice and checked everything out and everything seems to be tight and where it shoud be. Any suggestions? I have thought about just taking all of it out. I never leave Memphis in that car, and I have driven 40 years (now y'all know I'm an old fart) without having a flat tire. Just think of the weight advantage and you would have all that area for cargo!

OMG....that is awful!! No, I have to hit a big bump to make mine clunk. I think I might have found the problem this afternoon. There is a big eye-bolt in the jack area that wasn't in it's right position to hold it tight. I'm hoping that is it. I'm going to keep pulling things out one by one till I find the culprit. ;) What the heck is that thing for anyway? :ohno: If that is it, I'm going to wrap it in bubble wrap so it will fit in there tighter.

What do you guys have in the clock pod? That car is identical to mine.

We have real gauges that tell us things of supreme importance, just in case we so desire to lapthe nurburgring a couple of times in a few minutes. None of this "TIME" business lol

Image

first gauge tells: tire pressure for each tire (some models) trip, stop watch, distance till empty, avg mph, avg mph, and current blood alcohol level.

And that clunk this guy has is an issue with one of the cv joints.

Oh...I can get most of that info (except blood alcy level) on my gas gauge side. I don't want that stupid tire gauge. Had that on my G and it was to sensitive.

You would laugh if I told you why I wanted such a plain Z. It was the Dodge Charger commercial talking about how cars drive themselves nowadays. That was the problem with my G. Too many gizmos. I want to drive my car myself. :naughty:

I had a 77 Z back in the early 80s. Didn't even have power steering. It is the woman vs. machine that I missed in my G. I know....I'm weird.

Wait...what?

Sister, when I saw "Junk In My Trunk" as a thread title I was expecting something different. :lolling:

Seriously though, I've had one flat in my life...and it was in the Z. :squint: Ran over a bracket (looked like it was for guttering) from some new apartment construction in my neighborhood, happened so close to home I was able to get back without needing the spare. Took the Xterra to work and had the flat patched so I could roll around while I was waiting for a new tire to arrive.

I've been a AAA member for almost as long as I've been driving, so I've seriously considered just dumping my spare and jack and just rolling with a can of slime and a light duty pump for the times when AAA would take too long to get to me and fix my problem. Some will scoff at that, but that's the "OEM spare" on the Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice or whatever GM plans on re-branding the Kappa platform as when Chevy eventually puts it back on the road.

Besides, AAA really earned their money way back when I first got my 240SX and before I sorted out a lot of them problems. But over the past few years they've been getting the better end of the bargain. I don't even use their amazing trip planning services anymore between the built in nav in the Z and Google Maps on my Droid. I've got to have some rationale for keeping them on the payroll. ;)

Hubby and I travel a lot so we save enough on hotel rooms to pay for our AAA. My daughter had to call them once and they told her it would be an hour and a 1/2. That is rediculous in a city as big as Memphis. I could see it if she was out in BFE somewhere. I hardly ever leave Memphis in my car. I can just call someone if I need assistance. As far as NAV goes, hubby's truck has it and we always travel in it. For some reason we find a 4dr Ford F150 more comforatable to travel in than a 370Z :chuckle: . I know Memphis better than any NAV system. I never used it in my G.

I really am tempted to dump all that crap. I will see if I got the clunk fixed.
