Hi, recently some odd behaviour appeared. When my '93 240SX SE temp gauge has reached it's normal marking (3rd line), but it's still getting hot; goes down a bit when accelerating.

And if accelerating hard, goes down to almost flat, and this is almost immediately. Is this normal? Have you seen this before?

Thanks.

when you stop moving does it go back up or does it stay down?

the first 2 things that come to mind to me are 1. faulty coolant temp sending unit or 2. if the car only heats up when its sitting and cools down when accellerating i would say the thermostat is stuck open, but im leaning towards #1.

just my .02

Hi!

No, it doesn't stay down, in fact, it just goes down when accelarating hard...but when engine stabilices it goes to the normal position.

It's weird.

change the temp sensor. i dont remember on the KA but if it is like my 5.0 there is one for the gague and one for the computer.

even better, it will probably be around the same price, maybe a little more - go out and get some aftermarket gagues so you know what temp youre car is REALLY running at. factory gagues are usually highly unaccurate.

Yes, there is one for the gauge (Thermal transmitter) and one for the computer (Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor); that's interesting.

I was checking the connectors, and there seems to be some play and dirt in them; when moving the computer one, the EGR valve began operating with each movement....brrrrr, weird. I'll be disconnecting, cleaning and adjusting to see if things get better.

Thanks.

Dude first check the fluid level, If there is an air gap, the sender will read the air temp, not the water temp, when you accelerate the rpm goes up in the engine, and also the water pump. More flow fills the hose and the sender sends lower temp. On the KA24de there is an air bleed screw by the upper radiator hose on the block. If the level is low fill with water when engine is cool, then let the air out of the line Its cheaper than a sender, and less work.1. First check water level.2. If level is low fill it and let air out. 3. If level is full then change sender. (first giggle the wires may be lose, or broken.)
