Hey everybody, i picked up a 70k 1991 300zx last year about this time. I bought it as a wreck and ive been fixing it up. All the body work is done, the frame has been finally rebult, and im waiting aftermarked front end and paint to finish the exterior work. But heres comes the next step. Turbos. Im not sure about the jump, but i know that if i buy all the N/A upgrades, and i wanna jump later, i wont be able to get any money out. So im saving up my money but theres a few thingsA a friend of mine has the old stock one from his. he has all the pipes and everything. What should i look for damage wise? He only wants 100 bucks for everything cuase he wrecked the back end of his and hes just been parting off the car. Should i just wait and dump the money into a new turbo or should i practice tuning this one and make the jump to a bigger turbo later>?B What are all the things im going to need to correct between the two engines. i know ECU, O2 sesors, pipes, but what else? thanksDusty__________________-1991 300zx

Seems your into a situation that I know all too well. I have a 2+2 I rescued from an idiot owner and have been building her up. Some things you have to look for

1. Compression - I could not ascertain whether you were going to replace your pistons from your post, but you will need to. Would I take the used TT pistons and swap them in an NA? You can, I would not. Worn pistons with badd clearences is just asking for more trouble later. Go newer.

2. Oil Squirters - Along with the TT pistions, they have oil squirters and different angles on the TT because there are two wholes to help cool the pistons better. There are pistons, TT, without the holes aftermarket that would be the best way so your pistons don't warp n so on. You also could replace the squirters with TT spec

3. Oil Pressure - The oil pump in an NA is gonna be low pressure on a TT setup unless you replace the spring in the pump to make it run higher or buy a TT pump.

4. A stock NA fuel pump will only allow 400hp of power, meaning the highest you can go on injectors is 370cc (stock TT injectors). The NA has significantly less, I like what 250cc? In any case running lean with all that turbo air is realllllly bad. You need at least to put TT injectors in. Replace them all at once, and go new. Zs are notorious for bad injectors in my opinion from several Z sites. If you wanna go bigger with more boost, you are gonna need a better pump or booster fuel pump and remapping of ECU (again) or an AFC computer like I got. Oh yea, higher flow injectors.

5. Intercooler piping - is hard to come by and needs to be air tight, if your buddy has a set of pipes for you, take it man. heck, you can always sell em to me lol

Off the top of my head I can't think of anything else major, but I am SURE there is more

BE SURE you know what your getting into, maybe you do I don't know

You need to buy an entire front clip. There are too many differences. If you start with a clip you have almost everything to get it done right.

oil squirters are over rated, they might help keep the piston cool but unless you're making north of 600 hp I don't think they make a difference at all, way to may high hp cars running motors that do not have squirters at all
