Ok first thanks for this site. I finally figured out why my J30t was sluggish after warm. I jumped out the knock sensor with a 1 meg ohm resistor and it has run fine for a week. Then it triggered a check engine light. I checked the codes (mine is a 94) and it gave me a 32 (EGR Function) and a 34 (Knock Sensor). I know these two are probably related and came up because i have the sensor jumped. I have also read on here to use a 550k ohm resistor. Any ideas? Any links for the guy who sells a kit to reposition the knock sensor. Seems i should change it even though i always use 89+ octane. Thanks, great site.

The J uses 91+ octane, strictly premium, not plus, nor regular. There is a thread here about how to relocate the KS, if you use the search button you will find it. Hope this helps.

If you have it bypassed and it's still triggering a knock sensor code, then you don't have it bypassed correctly.

You also should be using 91 or better octane, especially if you have the knock sensor bypassed.

There are threads on here about relocating it. You can find knock sensors brand new on ebay for about $60 and I found a new wiring harness for it at the dealer for about $25.

The EGR code you are getting is not related. Seach EGR and you'll find out how to get rid of that code for good.

When KS are bypassed the circuity no longer hears the engine background noise and automatically switch to the knock retard ignition map reducing power output.

No bypass fix for this only new KS and harness solves the total problem.

Then why can you bypass the ks and get full power back?

Thanks for the replys. Yes i have been guilty of putting the midgrade (89) in it recently. I bet that's why it tripped. I'm going to get a new cable and sensor and relocate it. I bet it regains power with it bypassed as it goes to a default timing curve, which is constant based on no variable input from the sensor. Searching EGR threads now....
