i have the same problem i notice when ive got my foot firmly planted cruising about 3000 rpm it will jump 200 rpms or soo then it corrects it self again while my foot is still rock solid. my engine has 96,*** original miles on it
i know of one vacuum hose on the engine( the only one that hasnt been replaced) because its such a pain. its so old and is sort of disintegrating and the ends are fraying. its located off the top side of intake manifold, connecting to somewhere down under.(i believe connecting to where the block and the intake manifold meets) underneath the top of the intake mani. things a real b**** to put on, it fell off once. the engine i got has a brand new timing chain assembly, head gasket, oil pump, water pump, and i had the head rebuilt. all new vacuum hoses (accept the one i mentioned) i just recently cleaned my MAF "for maintenance" and changed the air filter. I also run injector cleaner in the thing ALL the time.
ive never done the plug wires, cap and rotor and fuel filter,
hope what i explained of what ive done can help you fill in the rest good luck
