I've had a bad MAF in my car for quite some time, so the only real use it has seen is a nice air conditioned room with a radio. Eventually, the Optima died and was left alone for a week or so. I called my dad and told him to jump it off and let it run for a few, but when I came back all hell has broken lose.

THE PROBLEM:

I turn the key. Car starts. No response from anything. Radio. Lights. Gauges. Exerything but the fuel gauge is out.

After it sits for a few seconds the wipers come on, interior ligh comes on (door's ajar) tach jumps up to idle and everything is okay.

But eventually it dies out. Even when throttle is applied it is unevenly running. When it dies out the car is completely cold. No lights. mo clock (light comes on, but no numbers??????)

After talking to my dad he admits he accidentally hooked up the jumpers backwards at first.

So........

What is wrong with my car?!?!?!!?!?!!!?!!?!!?

NOTE: Even with my bad MAF, the car idled fine. Ran rich but was completely normal until 2.5k . It's basically running without a MAF.

Help me out, I really need to get this thing into DD condition.

Thanks in advance.

Msb

Either ECU. Or sounds like a grounding issue. Installed a hud in a car and did rear mount battery in the car as well. Speed on the HUD was not working, after adding a couple extra grounds it was working fine...

unplug your batt and let it sit for a couple of mins to let the ecu reset its self. see if that helps.

Check your fuse under the dash, its a little 10A, 3rd from the top, right side, sorry I forget what its called, its like |ign relay" or accesory circuit or something, but I can garentee you its blown.

It runs the "ign circuit" which includes non critical things like your radio and dash stuff. Door alarm, wipers and clock are all on that circuit, yes wipers do weird stuff when that fuse is out. Its weird because they still work, which threw me off. I blew this when I was hooking up my gauges and it took me a while to figure it out. Trust me, check that fuse!

Don't try and drive to work on it, you will get 5 miles from home and then it will blow the big IGN fuse 20A under the hood! Then you're walkin, or do what I did and put a paper clip in to limp it back home.

Check that fuse

I'll check that later today. The car isn't my DD, so I'm not TOO terribly worried about it. I was really just hoping to slap on the new MAF and take it for a drive!

And I appreciate you pointing out fuse location even, as I never got the kick panel with this 240.

I'll check back later with a reply.

also check your alternator fuse near the battery, most likely it's blown. My friend reversed the battery terminals, and I had to change her alternator fuse and her ECU. But do check your grounds, often the one connecting then back of the head to the firewall gets loose.

Thanks I will.

I forgot to mention that when the positive was dsconnected, the car would die. Atleast it's something minimal.

****EDIT

Checked it out a little while ago, all fuses under my dash are good. However, the alternator fuse is blown. Plugged it with a screwdriver to create a circuit and everything electrical acted like normal with the exception of the car starting.

Going to nissan tommorrow to place an order.

All my grounds seemed stable, and the battery was unhooked for atleast 2-3 hours yesterday, then ran for almost 15 minutes before dying out, so I know the codes have reset.
