all wrapped up

is there a reason why the CAS bolts and the back bolts on the center cover on the top were painted pink?no play, spins freely

Damage done in shippinghopefully i'll be able to hit it out. i hope and pray anyways.

Ordered it from Boost_boy the last week (Thanks Dee!). 7 days later, here it is at my feet. Appears that i made out w/ a 3" race pipe (looks real good on the probably 2.25" stock piping). Now i just have to move it inside and take it appart to check the clutch and replace seals/timing belt, water pump, thermostat, valvecover gaskets, etc. before making room in the S13.

I have an oil pan that's much, much less dented if you want it. Venus shipped my motorset the same way, except they shipped it on a cheapass pallet, so the oilpan broke the pallet, not the other way around. They sent me a new oil pan, and the old one is just laying here.

I think the reason why the bolts were painted pink was because they felt pretty; oh so pretty:D . Glad you got your motor and sorry about the minor dings; wish I could have personally delivered it for you. If you're going to pull the oil pan, put a new set of rod bearings in there. Just make sure you put the bearing caps back on in the same position. Enjoy it, bro!!!!!!!!!

The gold dust shield that is dented, just take it off anyway. The US drive shaft is a smooch too long and that thing just gets in the way. You can pop it off with a screw driver and a hammer, it slides right off.

Sorry if this is common knowledge, but is it ok for the motor to be sitting on the oil pan like that? That leads me to think that the dents could come from that.

that is what the dents come from.

personally, whenever i have a motor out of a car and need to rest it on the ground, it goes on top of a tyre so that the tyre will give under the weight of the motor instead of the oil pan. guess not everyone cares as much, or don't have spare tyres laying around.

The AFM thing sucks and so does the oil pan. The oil pan is very repairable, but mine is currently bent to that level and doesn't affect a thing. I can check and see if there's another AFM deep into my old nissan closet "Frickin' shipping company"; and they usually are good about delivering problem free. Oh well, let me know.

hey, cant you use the ka24e afm or something? i remember hearing something about it being interchangable with the ca18det afm. if so i might be able to help you out, but ill have to see if ive still got it. regardless, itll make finding one a whole lot easier. also, my oil pan is dented like that and the car runs fine. i wouldnt worry, its deep for a reason.

In case anyne didn't know already, the CA's oil pick-up can handle a dented oil pan. It's design gives you a margin for error. Here's a pic in case anyone's wondering. You can either use a CA18DE's unit off a pulsar or KA24 (I forget which year). Just keep oil in your engine and you should be fine.

I was kinda thinking that myself.. thats a deep sump pan and the pics of the pickup tube didn't look like it fully reached the depths.. the SR has more of a shallow "flat" design and the pickup tube drops almost down to the bottom of the pan. I had to hammer some pretty nasty dents out of my lil' bro's SR lower pan when he ran a little off the road...

My suggestion is to lay the pan on a solid piece of wood or something w/ a few towels between the pan and wood to somewhat soften the blows (similar to how a panel beater forms a panel on a bag).. on a deep pan like the CA you might have to use a flat block or something and hammer on the end of it or maybe something like a seal driver.. since it'd be hard to get a rubber mallet to strike down in there... oh if your ballsy you can always heat it a little before but BE CAREFUL.. it will soften the metal and a wrong blow could crack or damage the pan beyond saving.

Oh anyways.. nice motorset :) Sucks the shippers tossed it about a little... looks clean though. Hmmm where are you guys getting clips/motorsets from that seem to have pretty good service/rep...

thats not stock;)

your flywheel, and pressure plate on the other hand look to be stockers allright! The disk appears to be very similar to the Nismo disk we have in the dealership:)

Instead of getting a new clutch set, why don't you send them both out to get them redone.

I don't have any intention of getting a new clutch set. doesn't look old or abused to me but i do need to source out a new throwout bearing :rolleyes

the camera can be deceptive. I took the clutch off and thought "damn thats shiney." took the clutch off for inspection, and the flywheel comes off to replace the rear main later.
