Okay, so my transmission mount was totally shot and I coudn't stand the sloppy feeling shifts anymore. Unfortunalty I am totally broke right now, no money for a good transmission mount and I don't want to buy a stock one and replace it later.

Solution: Solid Transmission mount.

I unbolted the old mount, the rubber was already cracked in half so it was no problem to remove the metal bottom part from the top. Next I removed all the old rubber with a angle grinder and coarse pads. (Yeah for air tools). I welded in a piece of 1 inch square tube (Yeah for POS flux core welder) to replace the stock rubber and reinstalled it all.

Total cost $0

I have never felt a car vibrate so much. It is like you can hear the gears in the transmission grinding together and I can hear every noise the engine makes. I have nothing but a huge grin on my face. I can't wait until my wife gets in for the first time. She is gonna ****! It's cool for now but I will see how long it lasts on a daily driver.

If you have the tools, mainly a welder, this was one of the easiet things I have done to my car. It took about 1.5 hours including a long test drive.

Try solid motor mounts along with the transmission...talk about a ruff ride.

with the engine mounts being stock and the trans solidly mounted, it may crack the trans cross member from the flexing loads.i wouldn't recommend leaving it like that for a long time.cool writeup though!

Interesting, I plan on making motor mounts from hockey pucks pretty soon. Those should be close to solid.

I can't support this fact myself, but intuition seems to support it. I have heard that a solid mount is very bad for transmission life, and causes unneeded strain on the gears. I suggest picking up some new oem mounts.
