I have a 1990 240 w/ 193,000 miles on it that I won't give up so I keep fixing whatever breaks. Right now I have a mysterious jingling noise coming from under the front that my mechanic says could be a sway arm bushing. Sounds more like a bunch of bolts in a tin can. It is prominent on bumpy roads and I hear it more when I first start out. Any ideas, anyone?

Maybe it's Santa and his jingle bells

lol thats what i was going to say..

but it could be your swaybars..maybe one of your bushings came loose and it is bouncing around. i think you can get a set of bushings maybe at a junkyard..

could be a loose exhaust heat shield that vibrates when the exhaust shakes.

try shaking or even kicking your exhaust to see if it rattles.

Thanks for all the replies. Actually, I listened again and it sounds more like a bird chirping ( and please no partridge in a pear tree comments!). It's not really a rattle. Maybe it's a spring somewhere. When I find out what's causing it, I'll post it here.

i had the same problem with my vert when i first bought it and it turned out to be a little mount type thing that helps hold the exhaust in place.. i guess it got loose and then rusted over so i couldnt just tighten it... so i went to autozone and got this exhuast weld stuff, its like a gray putty you just slather on and it hardens in place....ever check ur belts? cause they might be slipping and makein a lil jinggleing-squeaking noise when it gets humid out or cold.......
