Jerky 7 speed transmission on 2011 EX

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I have noticed intermittent jerky shifting, weird engine braking feel and rough downshift on my new 2011 EX35. I had a really rough downshift this evening, after doing a web search this evening I find this has been a issue on the FX and the G37, but I cannot find info on the EX. Anybody else experienced this or know of any TSB's for the EX?

As of now I am missing my 5 speed!

I traded in a 2001 BMW 325 with a 5-spd auto for the 2011 EX35. I don't find the transmission jerky but boy does it have puny grunt off the line. If I move out from a stop at normal speeds, the revs get up to 3000rpm but the car trundles off at a leisurely pace. From a butt dyno perspective the 184hp 2.5L BMW felt twice as powerful. Once it gets going at highway speeds its fine though. I realize there's a 500lb difference in weight but the power to weight ratio is better on the EX. Maybe I just need to put it in sport mode and manually shift?

Talked with the dealer today, was transferred to 3 people and there are no TSB's. I was told to use the same gas station for awhile, and that sometimes the parts need to wear together?

Going on a off ramp today I coasted off the ramp the car suddenly revved up then "clunk" into gear all was good after.
This does not sound like a gas issue or break in does it? I am busy working and the problem is still intermittent, but becoming more noticeable. I am busy working and since my dealer is about 40 minutes away, I think I will see if it becomes more evident.

I have owned every model year EX there is and nothing was like this, the car drove perfect a few months ago? I guess if you live 4 life's, one will be cancerous.

Pretty basic dumb question, but... is the Oil level good in the transmission ?

Good Call, I tried that! Where do we even look? the owners manual asks us not to check or service our own transmission fluid, plus the car only has 2250 miles?

Can't speak of 7sp EX since mine is 5sp, but I did get the chance to drive 7sp G37x yesterday as a loaner car and felt the same. Engine break with rough downshiftting, and from stop to 50kph(30mph), I feel I get more response in my 5sp EX than the 7sp G37... though shouldn't compare since the engine and gearbox are different.

FYI:

Just found the similar issue in G37 and TSB for that matter - http://myg37.com/forums/g37-sedan/21580 ... ogram.html

Not sure if EX will have the same update.

35 pages and counting in that Thread.

I like this one reply...

Gosh, I just read the first 18 pages and last 2 of this thread, and the things that strike me most are...

1) How many posters can't read: Hey guys, I have [some or all of the same symptoms that have been described repeatedly in the thread], has anybody else seen this?

and...

2) How many posters can't write: Uh fishgrbled the trsny and it upsit bat 40 dun th duller sey no udate. Whr snibbled far goggen?

Those are sort of paraphrasals, but you no doubt get the idea.

Yes, if you manually shift the EX, big difference in power, esp off the line, I noticed. Sometimes in regular D, it can feel sluggish for a 297 horsepower V6 off the line. Car and Driver or Road and Track.. actually got faster 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, manually shifting the EX, which is rare, (they even made comments about it) ususally leaving it in D or DS is faster on nearly all manumatic/automatic cars.

I've had 2 G37 loaners with 7-speed transmission in the past couple of months. The first I hated, the transmission was jerky and shifted an annoying amount of times. The second one was smooth as silk and maybe shifted as often but it wasn't noticeable. I mentioned it to the Service Manager and he said something about the cars having different "characters." Geez, I thought they were just identical mechanical devices. Don't know what to tell you other than your vehicle may have a bad "character."

I am gonna have to agree. I definately notice the shifting a lot more on my 2011 EX... especially when it down-shifts when braking.

I am coming from an 2009 Murano with CVT, so yes I am not use to geared transmissions, as I haven't been driving one for a couple of years, but I drive many different vehicles and this does feel a bit off.
