LOL!!! That is too funny. Well sounds like you are in good spirits and all is looking up for you.

I will definitely take your advice about the receipts....and trust me the mental note of the $$$$ is bad enough. I was actually thinking about getting the car specially insured after it is all done for an agreed upon value...just in case it gets stolen or totalled out. Got to see if StateFarm can do anything like that for me and I know it will cost more premiums...but at least I know I will not be out all my monies if it were totaled or stolen.

I can only imagine the argument against the adjuster showing him all the receipts after the car was stolen wiith me trying to convince him that the car should be worth a lot more than average market value.

"Jeff.....what brand of sway bar is that? Is that the long awaited BRM model? Just curious if it was the modified maxima bar or some other model? I already have a Stillen FTSB."

it's just a no-name ebay 2000 maxima brace. there was a couple different types when i was ready to buy. just picked the one that looked the "beefiest"!! it really looks pretty good, and for 10 bucks you can't go wrong!!!jeff

I think SeaFoam will eat some types of plastic. I don't recommend measuring it out in plastic cups or (definitely) pouring it through plastic PCV or brake check valves.

OK,,,for the specifics...... to be honest, i can't find where i bought the bar from,,,,,off of ebay,,,cheap 2000 maxima bar (typical ebay thing, low selling price, HUGE shipping cost!!!!! total was around $30). anyway,,,like most things, if i did it again, i'd cut the time in half, and would come out a little better, but all in all, not bad. i started with the "feet",,,,had to drill a new hole and make the other hole bigger. very important to make sure it fits flush, not stuck on the "lip" of the strut tower,,,why i had to make one hole bigger. when that was done, have to drill new holes in the "ears" to make the bar fit. i used a paint marker to mark the spots for the new holes. lined everything up, and tightned everything down. SUCH A BIG DIFFERENCE in the turns. the front feels sooo tight, now. jeff

Could you describe what you had to do to drill into the "ears" Does it have to be lowered, raised, etc?

damn these flyers!!!!! see if anyone knows what i'm talking about!!!

i had to make the holes lower on the "ears". HEY THE FLYERS JUST WON IN OVERTIME!!!!!!!!!! anyway,,,,,,yeah,,got to make the holes for the bar a little lower, i cleared the plenum by 1/4 to 1/2 inch. then used a band saw to take off the excess in the "ears". used a file to take off the sharp spots. actually came out better than i thought!!!!!next up,,,,,transmission cooler!!!jeff

I posted a bunch of close-up pictures of the modification, about a year ago.

Use a towel, or somehing, to keep the race off the plenum, while you mark the ears, for the new holes.

It really is easy. You can drill the new holes, with the brackets bolted to the strut towers. Then cut off he excess maerial. I used a hack saw, and a file to clean=up the edges.

A few shots of black paint, and it looks like new.

Shoot me an email, and I will send you a Word document, with insructions and pictures.

Would a Maxima FSTB with only a "C" shaped ear versus a "O" be easier to modify?

Like this one?Click to enlarge

If it looks a little funny, I 'jacked it and then removed the name written across it :D.

Yea, usual ebay deal, $7.95 for the bar, $23 or some ridiculously high shipping, that doesn't include insurnace .

I'm holding out for the BRM version, but want to have other options under $100.

Rex -

I ordered one of those with the C-shaped brackets when i was putting together this one...

They were really shabby, and IMO the c-shaped "feet" are just too flimsy. The circle shape gives more strength.

AZ - Thanks for the heads up, but I have to say if the BRM isn't readay soon, I'll probably donate an additional $30 to NICO and "go with" one of the newer sponsors, if you know what I mean :(.

or you could go w/ my plan. bought a cheapie off ebay, easy fab and install (could do it all in an hour now that i know what i'm doing!), looks great, and great improvement in handling. i'll wait to see what the brm looks like and the cost and may upgrade at that point. of course, would always rather buy from a nico supporter!!!!jeff

Not a problem buddy - I understand.

Although unless you get it from Stillen (or modify n ebay unit) you're outta luck.

I haven't given up, but it's becoming readily apparent that a guy who wears a shirt and tie to work in an air-conditioned office every day doesn't tend to have lots of friends that are machinists and fabricators... :(
