Well, it appears that the SoCal market has a new player in the SR20DET sales/service arena. Their name is JDM Recycler and they are in City of Industry. Apparently, they sell clips for $1900 - $2600 based on quality, and parts included (if any are missing). I just found out about this place a couple days ago. Today, it has just been brought to my attention that they had a booth at the LA Auto Show and they are offering a sold, installed, wired, running SR20DET swap for $2500, and this deal is supposed to go through till the 14th of February.

My opinion?I immediately cringed at that price.... of both a $1900 clip and an installed SR20 for $2500. I don't understand how a company can profit by that. This is assuming that it's a complete R+R job. Wouldn't it be interesting if you had to pull your own engine to get it at that price?

Their website is here : http://www.jdmrecycler.com No information about this deal is mentioned on their site.

My question?Has anybody ever heard of these guys, or heard about a rep? I guess they were recommended on Zilvia, but I don't know the people there, so I'm not going to trust them right away. If there are no valid opinions (not your brothers girlfriends dads cousins sons opinion), would there be any interest in getting me to take a few hours out of my day this weekend to go down and look around?

Bottom line: $2500 is way too good to be true, regardless of their reputation. I would like to read the small text.

Could be a promotional discount?

I already said it was promotional, but c'mon, how can people make money off a swap at that price?

Hey I've heard of a shop in Toronto offering the local club a group purchase of $3000 Canadian installed. I think they need 5 of them. That's about $1850 US.. I've no idea how they can do it for that, but I understand it's all stock parts. Still amazingly cheap, and still yet to be seen...

The thing that warry me about them is that there are so many motors that how can you be sure to get a good one. They wont have time to inspect them all rite?

I can tell you that they aren't interested in customer service.

I e-mailed them with a bunch of questions about their company, start-up garauntee, if they sell black tops, etc...

They replied by saying I don't have a blacktop, but I have 30 red tops. Call me when you're ready to buy.

Didn't answer all my other questions about mileage, warranty, body panels, etc...

They are most certainly not getting my business. AfterDark reigns supreme!!!

What I think it boils down to is this...

You can get cheap incomplete swaps if you know what you are looking for, don't want service, are prepared to go and look, inspect, maybe even take your own battery cables and a compression tester, then source all the missing parts later.

Is it worth it? That depends on the individual, their knowledge, ability etc.

Alternatively you can go to someone like Dauntless, who has things like "complete" swaps, start up guarentee, customer service, and a reputation in the community to protect.

I've just been to the LA autoshow, talked to one of them. I asked about the warranty for the SR20DET swaps (Btw, they have both redtops and blacktops, for $2500 and $2800 respectively)... and the answer was there is NO warranty. They said, it should be running fine fresh out the shop. They seemed to be more interested in $$$$$$$$$... they went on saying, with $500 deposit in cash, casher's check, or money order, I get to pick a motor from their lot of 15 leftover motors(front clips). No warranty.......You get what you pay for I guess...

jdmrecyclers are legit. they buy in mass containerships, thats why they are so cheap. they deal with honda motors as well... and a LOT of the motor swap stores you see online are actually just re-sellers for jdm recyclers

JDM Recycler is a good company. You have to talk to Dave directly. 714 713 1749 I think it was.

Me and 2 of my other friends bought clips from him about a month ago. One of the clips was missing an ecu, and he shipped it within a week. On my clip the turbo was dead, and he is shipping another on for me this week. The warrenty is gaurenteed to run. After that its urs, it is a used engine. but if stuff is broken, they will replace it. Dave is a good guy. He was helpful and fair with his dealings.I recommend dong business with them. Go check out thier shop and speak to dave directly.

I got a (s13) black to front clip with bodyparts from there, and I should be getting it at the end of the week, I'll let you guys know how it all turned out as soon as I inspect it. To me, whenever I buy something like this I expect it to not be 100% reliable, I mean, it is used stuff and you have to spend some money upkeeping it and replacing some worn out components. I don't think any business wants to sell total crap, but its hard to guarantee used stuff that is probably gonna be pushed pretty hard anyway.

They get them cheaper, because SR's are cheap, they have only jacked up the price recently since that article in SCC. Before then clips went for 1500...its sad supply and demand that is...

it was 2600 w/bodyparts, although one of the fenders is damaged, but I really don't care cause I wasn't expecting to get that anyway, plus I can get close to free bodywork.

yeah give us some pics when you get that thing.

I wonder how much shipping would be. AfterDark wants $2600 for their S13 Blacktop, but they are like a 3.5 hour drive from my house so I can go pick it up myself. That means I can inspect it before I buy it also.

I have yet to see a company that would be better than AfterDark. I can't find a better deal for a blacktop than Afterdark and they are a great company to deal with. According to JDM Recyclers, they don't sell Blacktops. At least thats what they told me.

I wanted to go through afterdark also, but he doesn't have any, anyway with JDMrecyler.com I can also have one of my friends stop by and inspect. When I called they only had one black to, and yes shipping will probably be a crap load of money because its the entire clip. I don't wanna say aferdark is not the way to go because the guy is promising very good quality.......but I just didn't want to wait and can afford to spend a few extra bucks, I'll keep you posted and post some pictures as soon as its in.

I got a s13 silvia clip from JDM Recycler for $2100,All the stuff to convert to silvia front end for $500,and shipping to Chicago for $600.

They compression test their engines and supposedly my engine passed with flying colors even though the clip was an ex drift car. I haven't installed it yet but it turns over alright. I am not too concerned about it since Davies has held true to his word and has sent me parts that were missing for free already.

The fenders needed some bodywork after the plane ride to Chicago which I was expecting, and the hood was trashed. I am using it temporarily while I wait for my Carbon Fiber hood from Sunny Styling.

BTW, you would have a better time asking him questions if you called him directly. I'm sure he gets like 2342423452352 emails from window shoppers who never come through.See for yourself.

Well, I got mine in on Thursday, pulled it on Saturday, pulled my Ka on saturday also and removed the harnesses (i'll probably be wiring this up during this week).

The front clip was very complete as far as igniter, mafs, tachometer, wiring harness and stuff.

The bodyparts were missing with the exception of the hood. The engine has 105000 KM. Its a 98 black top s13. I can post pictures if anyone would like but overall, I'm pretty pleased with JDM RECYCLER. The only complication I'm having is with the wiring....the car had a digital AC control...........and also the intercooler brackets seem to be missing (I'm going with the stock one for at least the next three months).
