ok was just wondering whats the difference in the enigines between the usdm vh45 engine and the jdm vh45?? like sensors, ecu, wiring, compression, emissions etc.???

reason why im asking is i recently bought a 1991 q45 its original owner is military and car came from haiti now its in hawaii he says that the motor is jdm spec and i want to be sure, is there also any differences in the interior options? if i need to post pics i will reason why is i just bought the car for 500$ hes leaving and was wondering if this was a good buy ??? as well as need to fix stuff and would like to be sure if i do own a jdm spec one that the usdm parts work like the oil pressure sensors etc...

Primary differnces are that JDM Q45 engines have different exhaust manifolds [no precats] and different software in ecu to account for better JDM premium fuels.

JDM were all right hand drive, so if US style probably just US design.

$500 is just the entry ticket to the Q45 theme park where every ride and food cost extra..........plus you are charged by the hour and mile you stay in the park.

We always warn used old Q buyers to expect $3,000-$10,000 [retail dealer prices] in rehabilitation if they want to bring in back to near new operation.

i understand that with any quality car you need to put the time and money into it... ive built a nice rhd drift car for my own self and currently have enough money into it to put a hefty down payment on a house so the fact that enough money to get a quality q is not an issue mines is lucky cause it running and ive only found small things wrong with it so far though in the next month or so i may yank the motor to fully rebuild it and throw in new fuel pumps suspension etc.... to me this stuff is just part of cars id rather have a quaility, reliable engine rather than just go the cheap route

You may be the exception since most buy old Q because the are cheaper to purchase than equivalent year mileage Lexus, BMW, or MB, even Audi V8.

lol i always end up being the exception when i build stuff i guess cause i learned in many ways its better to do it right the first time and just spend the money.

on a side note do you know where i can pick up lower compression pistons 9.0:1 or something of that sort or even a higher compression version something like je's or cp if they even make pistons for the vh45 engine? if not are there any engines out there that you guys may know of that are equilvelent in piston size that i could use???

On the pistons yes, I do know!zer...age=1

Techni is building a VH45 for his project. He's using 9.0:1 Pistons from Venolia.

They are custom ordered. Not off the shelf.

Of course, it wouldn't be a VH45 build if it were easy...

I'm beginning to think it's a waay better idea to start with a JDM VH45 rather than buying one cheap and rebuilding it. The shop just called and now the heads on mine that were "good" need rebuilt and will be another $500!!! I bet I will have at least 3k into mine by the time it's running.

It's always better to start with a good core than to rebuild an engine that's been abused. I'm sure there are abused engines in Japan too, just not as many.
