Ok so my 2002 QX4 has a blown engine. Blown head gasket, massive overheating. Local rebuilder I trust wants 2,300 to reman. I found two really clean and tested JDM versions of the VQ35DE. I noticed that the crossover tube is on the opposite side, right hand drive I guess. Also there is no cruise control throttle cable. Is there anything else I need to be concerned with and has anyone out there done this before? Also I assume a RWD engine is the right fit for a 4x4, only need a rear sump, correct?

I wouldn't even fool with it. You'd be a lot better off just buying a used American VQ35 and swapping it in there.

I really don't think its that much different. But I do understand your point. Only snap is my lack of trust in junkyards. No testing only the tag ran good. Anywhere between 800 and 1500. Remanufactured for 2100 delivered is a far better way to go than a suspect junk engine. Anyone with suggestions or a VQ motor for me? JDM 50000 mile tested motor for 1000 bucks is worth some conversion. No?

Haven't done an engine swap myself, but having been a member on here for a while, I've read a lot about it.
Try searching for information on engine swaps.
I seem to remember someone else going through this scenario a few years ago.
One thing to make sure of is whether the new engine came from a standard or an automatic.
There are differences between the two.
If you are doing this swap yourself, then you can have both engines out of the truck at the same time, side by side.
That way you can move all the necessary bolt-ons from your old engine to the new one.
