JDM VQ35DE Engine Swap

I will likely be dropping a new engine in my 2001 in the next few months and was thinking about doing the JDM swap.

Has anyone successfully done a 3.5 VQ35DE JDM swap??

I have been doing some research and I have found all kinds of conflicting information.

Mostly what I understand is the JDM engines don't have the smog requirements we do here and most of the parts on it are reversed. It requires basically stripping both engines down to almost a long block and swapping all the parts from the US engine to the JDM.

Anyone else have any good info for the swap??
There is a dealer near me that has the engines for about $900 with around 50k miles and a 90 day warranty.

Unfortunately, noone that I have seen documented on this forum.
However, search for posts by "canuckqx4". I believe I have read a post by him saying he didn't run into any problems, but he might have lucked out and gotten an engine from a 2002 JDM vehicle with a manual transmission. Sample: engine-swap-time-vq35-check-my-pics-and-q-t588101.html

This discussion here makes me believe there could be more issues than just moving things from left to right.

I found out that alot of things are different from 2001-2002 to 2003-2004. The crank and cam sensors do not output the same voltage and the same signals. The cam gears are also different... So you will need to install your 2001 cam,crank sensors and cam gears on the 2003 engine

Ok so need to make sure the JDM is from a 2001-2002 (same year as current engine). Swap over the cam / crank sensors.

I think he will need to change also the flexplate?? I read somewhere that they are also different and the signal plate on the 2003-2004 do not give the same signal or that the 2001-2002 dont even have a signal plate on the flexplate???

Again 2001-2002 JDM to avoid problems.
I remember seeing a sensor on the bell housing of the transmission once when I was under there. I am assuming that is for the signal plate.
