Just finished the wiring for the VH41 using the factory TCU & ECU. The engine won't fire and the O/D Off light flashes with one long (2 sec) with a 2 sec break followed by 16 quick consecutive flashes. While in the start position the onboard ECU light comes on for 2 sec then goes out until cranking stops followed by a continus light for 8 sec.

Unfortunately I cant find the reference guides in the FSM and I don't have access to the Consult II software or cable. Any help would be appreciated

Just picked up the Consult interface and ECUTalk software so hopefully can see what's going on

interested to hear the outcome of this and the fault finding with ECU talk

How has the automatic inhibitor switch wiring been done? If it doesn't think it's in park or neutral, it won't fire.

Mine is rigged to permanent neutral... It's a quick fix, but ultimately you'd want it to know what gear you're in so it accesses the fuel maps in sequence!

does it crank but not fire??? IF it cranks then its nothing to do with the TCU or anything like that

It cranks but doesn't fire. The O/D off light flashes seem to be a result of the TCM being disconnected. Reconnected that and it went away. Now the 2 main faults are an open circuit on the TCM (obviously no ABS or TCS sensors or controllers connected) so I need to find a way around that and the other is an open or shorted Secondary Throttle Position Sensor circuit which I spent today trying to isolate. Will keep you updated as I go

the secondary TPS is for TCS models, so I doubt thats something thats a cause for concern...

I think you need to go back to the basics and check for spark and fuel, then we can narrow things down... I think based on what you've said so far, the "fault codes" are pretty irrelevant to the car running.

definitely has fuel going to the rail but I'm waiting on a mate to bring his tester over to confirm the injectors are pulsing. I would have thought the lack of spark would be due to the ECU not sending a signal to the coils and assumed that would be due to the codes. Having said that, I have no real idea on how these things work. I'm old school carby era

BTW, whats the norm with the TCM, do others usually bypass/remove it or does it have to remain part of the system?

Take the crank angle angle sensor out and spin it, and see if the injectors click... If they dont click, then you have a problem there.. if thats good, check spark.. An ignition issue might throw a code though...

Then, check fuel pressure...

Bit of an update. Basically followed the diagnostic steps 1 by 1 in the FSM eliminating problems as I went. ECU is now showing Code 55 No Malfunction but still won't start. Power to the coils is good and continuity to the transistors is fine so looks like I'm almost there. I bought an Injector NOID light and found the injectors aren't pulsing. Checked continuity between ECU and each injector and that is good so it's got to be a power supply issue although I cant find the 4 pin engine harness sub-connector that is supposed to be next to the 8 pin injector harness connector . A shove in the right direction would be appreciated

Another thing I should mention is ECU Talk is telling me the timing is 46* BTDC, but I'm not sure if that is accurate or not.

On another note, the TCM is still flashing a few codes (12, 13 & 24) but none of them seem to be messing with the ECU function anymore and are only related to the TCS/ABS input/output signals

ECUtalk won't know the base timing, only what the ECU is trying to run to. 46 sounds like a bit, but you are trying to start it...

Ok I managed to get it firing and she runs as sweet as a button. Only drama I have now is it won't stop. Obviously something is still supplying power to the circuits after the ignition is switched off. Immediate thought is the Alternater wiring is wrong so will test that first otherwise it's back the diagnostic drawing board

What did you do to get it running??

applied power to the injectors. There was 1 wire that I was sure had been connected but obviously hadn't.
