I purchased an engine from a guy in deland fl the other day. He said it was bought from jdm orlando. Anyway I haven't cracked the engine open or anything other than buying and taking home. I paid 1200 for it. lets hope I didnt make a mistake. It was said to be out of a 90 car and mine is a 94. Didn't get any intercoolers with it and its also got an automatic ecu. I have a na manual and know I will need to upgrade the ecu. It came with some charge pipes but I was wondering if anyone would recommend the cx racing charge pipes? Don't have a 800 to drop on ashspecz pipes right now. I also found someone local with some parts and that includes z1 smic, an ac condensor and some other items.

Right off the rip. What would I need to complete this swap. I am wondering about buying some hks intake pipes that have the ssq blowoff valves. Should I rebuild the current turbo's or try to upgrade though that sounds like a long wait. Should probably get the car running to verify its good. I wanted to buy a engine rering kit and go through the engine and replace gaskets etc. Would you guys try to start the engine first or is it better for me to just go through it and try to refresh her. Obviously going to do the timing belt kit as its supposed to have 74000km on the motor.

1. You don't need to change ECUs the auto ECU will work with a manual.

for your other questions search for the Z1 swap guide, it has pretty much all the info you need.

I went to go see my engine this morning and take pictures. Primarily the pics with the pipes and the vtc's so far. What pipes does it look like I'm missing? Are the cxracing intercooler pipes worth the money? Do my vtc solenoids look like there is a problem? I know I need an oil cooler and it looks like the motor came with an oil filter relocation kit, do I keep if so where to mount it? I will obviously need new injectors and coil packs as well.

Has the rb25 turbo's or the s15 gt28's been used on the 300zx? looking for a budget upgrade to turbo's down the road. Will probably just save for disco potatoes or something.

Not gonna sugar coat it. That thing looks BEAT. Corrosion, oil leaks everywhere, rust, a whole host of things just from a glance. Those injectors are guaranteed not to work. The caps look like they've been sitting at the bottom of the ocean for 20 years, and the green corrosion is BAD.

As far as the question about the hoses, all the soft hoses are there. The cut hoses in the back are the heater core hoses, but you're gonna be missing a lot of water lines and vacuum lines, but those are just simple hose runs.

As far as the question about the turbos, you can pretty much put on just about any turbo that'll fit under there. And the RB25 turbo I believe is smaller than the disco potato. Just a matter of how much you want to change to make it work vs using off-the-shelf available upgrades.

The motor has been sitting for a while from what I understand. I am basically going to be rebuilding it. I also found some other things that have me concerned. when i pulled the plenum which is all i got done so far I noticed that the egr tubes had what looks like oil or just a s*** load of carbon build up. either way going to get this thing back on the stand. I need to get some things to organize bolts etc when i start tearing it apart to rebuild. I will also be rebuilding the turbos to make sure they are fine.

In the link above you will see pics of the egr pipes that were in the plenum. What would cause that build up? I plan on taking this thing down and replacing gaskets etc, doing a 60/120k timing belt service, and whatever deletes are recommended. Will replace motor mounts and lines as well. Have been looking around for a all inclusive hose kit for this engine and have seen some on amazon going for 400 not sure if anyone would recommend or what is the best kit to get all replacement hoses?

Is it possible to start the engine with the just the ecu hooked up?
Any help is appreciated.

Mine had some carbon buildup when I deleted mine, but that is a LOT. Possible that there was an air/fuel issue causing unburnt fuel to carbonize or possibly some blow-by causing burnt oil to go into the exhaust. Bottom line, delete the EGR. It's a system that doesn't really do much for the emissions aspect, and just causes problems down the road.

What about the pcv system? Is it enough to get a catch can or just vent to filter? what deletes are worth doing while I have the engine out? what about hoses I know im gonna pay an arm and a leg for all hoses.

Z1 Motorsports sell numerous silicone hoses and several kits that are well priced.

Common deletes are plenum coolant line deletes/re-route, EGR delete, AIV delete, PRVR delete. Im sure that ive missed a few.

Z32 Wiki has lots of info as well, IIRC one section about the PCV delete.

I just run the stock PCV setup personally. Not that big of a problem to me. Then again I don't flog my car or track it.

^Ditto, catch can is only needed if you are planning on tracking the car, under most normal cruising operation the oil never makes it up that high.

Not sure what my plans are other than to get the car to state I'm happy with. this could include me looking for a dry sump system down the road and trying to upgrade to forge internals when I have the money for it. I bought the car for a 1000 dollars and it came with the concept z 120k timing belt service kit. I only spent an additional 1200 on this twin turbo motor after hearing a knock in the na motor. It may have had it even before I bought the car.

lol yeah couldnt find one under 800. but got an idea of what i want with the internals and will be looking to get cp pistons down the road and scat rods. I dont assume this motor will be finished in 3-4 months so this may work out allowing me to forge the internals and try to get a hybrid turbo setup going so I can wait on new turbos down the road.
