Is there any way to legally register a Japanes S13 in the U.S., so it can legally be driven.

Yeah it's possible. There was a RHD 180SX at the SoCal240SX Meet. I don't know how he did it, and I know that it took him a while to get it done, but he has it here.

There should be pictures of it on my site somewhere. http://www.forumpix.com/socal240sx it's black 91-93 180SX some of the paint off the front bumper had been rubbed off. And the guy who owned it was black. IIRC, there is a picture someone took in that album of him sitting down. I want to say hes wearing a red shirt and shorts or red hat or something. Might want to try getting in touch with him.

I asked someone about importing a S15 and he gave me the prices on how much it'd cost to get it all legalized and registered. So it can be done but i will warn you...it is freaking expensive!!!

wasn't there a marine in a magazine(can't remember which one, I think scc) a year or two ago that was stationed in japan, and when he came back to the states he brought his s13 ca and had it registered legally. He used it for his daily driver in Japan, and drove it quite often here in the states as he said in the article. I remember the article saying something about how he had to wait a few months for the car after it got to the shore. But none the less, he did it. And if a "young" marine can afford it and do it, it must not be all that hard or all "that" expensive. JMO

I've been told that you can basically "make" the car a kit car and have it registered. Heard anything about that?

If you are serious, call a Registered Importer or Idenpendent Commerical Importer, and get some real facts instead of Internet Myths. Also check out the EPA's website about dealign with customs and the NHTSA about registering the car.If you are serious, do some leg work.

Try contacting places like Motorex and ask how they legalize their imports.

I've talked to a guy in southern Cali a few months ago and he said he could get me an S15 sent here for $13,000. Unfortunately, I lost his number and company info, and I live in Colorado, so I wouldn't know where to start. Motorex isn't to compfortable giving out info about legalities. So if any body knows of any registered importers or any other companies that could possibly do it, that would be cool.

He said it wasn't that expensive, but he didn't go into any details. He mentioned you could basically register it the same way you register a kit car. I don't know jack about kit cars, so I dont know.

We can do S15s and Skylines, etc. : ) I very much doubt Motorex will help you in any fashion, if you desperately want something brought over, IM me or email me. : )
