Does anybody know a reputable shop/dealer where I can buy a JDM RHD S14? I've only found one shop in California that has one in stock and they're asking $9,500 , I'm most likely going to get it but I'm from Jersey and would be taking the trip out there to go pick up the car and drive it home. Just wanted to find another dealer to compare prices and reputations. Since this shop primarily deals front clips and just happend to get an S14 and S15 car in stock. Also I've been asking around but havent got a definite answer, would this car be able to be registered and pass emissions in New Jersey let alone the U.S?

I doubt it. The process is complicated and expensive, so, at that price I doubt it.

On the subject of registration....

I believe it all depends on how it was brought over. I heard recently that there is a loophole when bringing cars over by saying it is "mechanically similar" to USDM cars. Apparently a couple clever people have gotten Skylines into the US saying that they were highly modified 300ZX's. I don't know have much info about it, my friend was just telling me about it breifly today.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

The real way to certify those things in the US is to do some major testing on them. From ECU, sensors, etc changes to crash testing from front, rear, and sides. Its no walk in the park. All these will cost close to 20 grand. Now add in the price of 3 cars for crash testing. That's a fat wallet.

you COULD get swap vins from a usdm s14 that has been wrecked, saying you rebuilt it or something... just do anything you can so that the dmv does not walk out to your car. that could get you "dmv certified." but if you ever get pulled over and the cop walks up to the left window and sees you in the right seat, hell double check your vin numbers and question the **** out of you. your call man.... shady as hell, but id crap in my pants if lets say you passed me.

I would like to point out that you would be driving on a salvaged title at that point. And if you ever did get caught, you'd have been lying to your insurance company that whole time... Insurance companies frown on that.... Just a thought.

Also, while I haven't directly suggested swapping vins because its highly illegal ( like 15,000 dollar fine and a felony ) it could theoretically work so long as you properly swapped all the VINs, its not illegal to have RHD and its perfectly possible to convert it and they woudln't have reason to strip your car apart and find out the firewall from a JDM Silvia wasn't welded in and that it actually was a JDM Silvia. Also, see my post in the other forum about this, well, my response to your post in the other forum.

Amen brother. Not to mention you'd have to get used to shifting with your left hand and steering with your right. The pedals are still the same orientation though aren't they? clutch on the left, then brakes and gas?

or drive thru ATMs, or passing people, or drive thru windows, or just about anything as our road system is setup for a LHD vehicle...

Duh dude, just get used to going in reverse for anything slow. (i.e., drive thru, ATM). Heck, just e-brake it and slide through the toll booth in reverse too, then once you're through: standing 180. : )

um....if u switch VIN plates properly...**** whatever a cop says...you just tell him "oh i converted it to RHD". Unless ur living in Cali no cop will care...they will prolly think its cool. only other time it would matter is in a full coverage accident when the car is destroyed or something.

Liability + cheap imported illegal car + legal VIN and title from owned 240sx = u get most attention

p.s.dont tell anyone that doesnt need to know (girlfriend, random jabrone friends, etc)
