Gday from NZ. I'm active over in the 300ZX forum, first visit here. Im involved with a local builder of R32 race bodies, and supply standard & upgraded RB20 - RB30 engines. All are RHD, ex Japan.

Is there a market for these in the US? The legalities of road registering them would be a nightmare, I guess, but as track cars or drift weapons, the same rules don't apply.

What is a clean R32 shell, caged, interior and engine bay gloss finished, exterior matt black and clean, suspension done, worth in the US? The shipping costs may well mean its not "doable", but worth investigation, I guess.

Okay, here we go.

1. The R32 is illegal to import into the U.S. for any reason, by anyone. The only Skyline legal to bring into the U.S. is the R33 produced between January 1, 1996 and July 1, 1998. See http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/....html for details.

2. In order to permanently import any vehicle into the U.S. for the purposes of racing, you must have a manufacturer affidavit stating that the vehicle was originally produced with the sole intent of racing and has never been authorized for street use. See http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rule....html for details.

Thanks, encryptshun, appreciate the knowledge. Moderators, feel free to delete the thread if need be. At least I know that the R33 can come in, and I mod those too. Have a good NICO day, y'all!

No prob. Lots of misinformation regarding vehicle importation, most of it propogated by scammers preying on the un- or misinformed. Though the R33 is legal for importation, the government won't "release" the vehicle through customs until the importer has documented the DOT and EPA certified modifications listing with the NHTSA. Currently, there is only one company who has a green-lit mod program, and that program is considered propriatary information and is not available to the public. In order for anyone else to get it through, they have to literally guess what the secret recipe is and duplicate it -- of course without knowing what it is, exactly. It's like spearing a fish, off-handed, in the eye, in the dark. But please, please, please go for it and then publish the recipe so we can get out of this government red-tape bullsh*t! G/L!

ive heard of people importing them as kit cars to race with...they break the car down into a rolling chassis, motor and transmission, steering column, wiring harness and ecu. then ship them seperately.

i dont know how they do it but they do...i think the company is in Canada and they ship from Canada to the US. i think they can get away with it by just putting it on a truck and driving it over here. but that is just a guess

worth looking into
