JDM HUD question

I just bought a 93 coupe and the guy before me put a jdm hud cluster in it. as of right now the gas gauge needle is broken off and for some reason the KMH gauge only seems to work randomly usually in second, thrid, and fourth gear, it never works in 5th. Just wondering if you guys have an idea on what might be wrong, also for the time being can i just swap my standard non hud from my 94 into my 93 so that i can at least know how much gas i have.. thanks for your thoughts
