thanks this is a front clip though, not just an engin e. totally different.

Im going to have them compression test it right in front of me. so according to this 174 per cylider is perfect. Im guessing each one should be 170ish http://www.twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/f ... ow-To.html

Engine or Clip, its still a gamble, its always a gamble and compression testing a cold dry engine wont give you accurate results.

What kind of budget will you be setting aside? With you doing all the work and putting in all the wrench time, look for about $10k to have it done right. If you want it done right, plan to do a full rebuild. If you're doing a full rebuild, doesn't really matter what engine you get or the miles, as long as the heads aren't warped or some othre catastrophic failure of a major engine component.

ill be doing the swap myself. Ya its going to take me ahwile just to pull the motor out of the front clip and get it to where I can start work on it. by the time I get the motor built. I should have the money to buy a beeter to drive around while my z is apart hopefully. I have a lot of other things to do so ya. I'm not going to pay some shop to do it it will cost me a arm and a leg and no promise it will be done right. Kinda feel like this will be a year long project. I think though I can do it for under 10g with a front clip, I can salvage whats good and buy new whats bad or is going to need replaced like turbos gaskets etc.

Dont expect the compression test to be 174, the engine is cold, probably has sat for awhile and is used. If they read 150+ I would say your good the minimum compression I believe is around the low 120's. Nice thing with the front clips is you can actually get a lot of usable parts to sell off of it, I can see on that one quite a few goodies and the fenders appear to be in decent condition to boot. Generally clips are a little more reliable as the engine is still technically in the car and as such not as susceptible to damage.

I get kinda impulsive sometimes, I am doing this just not right now. id like to finish the suspension, and ace asked me to do a write up on stereo install for the forum which im doing next. So not now.

Once I get the car to the point where the only thing left to do is going to be in the engine compartment. Which will be sooner than later.

The interior of my car on a scale from 1/10 is a 9.9 The exterior is a 9.9 realistically no exaggeration my standards are high.. There isnt going to be any restoration to do on this car its clean as can be and all original. There are 2 tiny door dings on this whole car with original unfaded paint and that is it. Pretty much after suspension and my stereo there is nothing else to do. Then im swapping it. And im building a monster. And its going to be bad as hell black 2+2 limo Expect a build thread, soon.
