Thinking of using a JDM engine to replace my 2005 Nissan SE-R engine that just dropped a valve into the engine. Anyone have luck with a particular JDM, any to stay away from?

They seem like good deals with less the 50k, some claim about 30-40k which if I am reading it correct is about right for Japanese engine since they don't drive much there?

Thanks for any help..

10 year old JDM vehicles face strict reinspection criteria! 60,000 Klicks is considered very high miles for a 10 year old car! Botttom line, you literally cannot give away a 10 year old car in Japan [unless it is a very rare or otherwise desirable version] as my Niece's husband found out. He had to give it at no charge to his wifes brother-in-law. It was a beautiful Toyota wagon! The brother=in=law drove my wife and I to the Narita airport in it, is was a real gem! The alternative was to scrap it and sell the motor and drive train to the USA low milage drivetrain importers or sell it through Vladivostok to the eager Russsian market.

The flip side of that there's really no way of knowing (or proving) actual miles.

I've bought a few Japanese takeout engines with good results - My SR20VE came from Soken (http://www.sknengines.com/). No issues, good deals.

You'll need to budget for all new ancillary pieces, or transfer yours over from your current engine). Belts, hoses, alternator, starter, etc.
