I'm needing a VH45 for my project and wondered if any of you had good luck with an importer; preferably in the southeast (NC) usa?
Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm looking for a 90-95 engine and thought the JDM imported might be a better way to go. All the ones I've seen locally have 150-200+K on the clock and I'd like to keep it below 100k. I only plan on replacing normal tuneup items and possibly chain and guides if needed. I do not want to do bearings, rings etc, etc. Any recommendations?
Oh, the project is a 260Z which currently resides on a rotisserie.
TIA

You have VH45s for cheap as chips over there! I'd stick with a local motor you can check out for yourself. It costs us around $1500 for a motor out of Japland or $2200+ for a halfcut...

Would probably be cheaper to get a high mileage motor and replace all those things than to get an import.

Yeah at this point, if you were to get a 1994 engine it is STILL 16 years old even if its got low miles, so its going to need to at least be looked at for things like VC seals, hoses, etc.

The main thing is how clean they look.. Take off the valve cover (pass side is easier), and look at the heads. If they are nice and clean (maybe a slight amber color), you're going to be better off taking that engine than a much lower miles one that looks nasty inside.

Mileage shouldn't be your major concern, it should be their maintenance.. a well maintained engine will go 300k miles easily without losing compression or needing rings.

Yeah, ain't that the way? Buying a "new" 15 plus year old motor to go in a 30 plus year old car!
I don't mind seals, gaskets, some wiring, replacing connectors etc. It's the coil packs, PTU's, and fuel injectors I'm concerned with.

My plan is to use a 90-95 engine with 90-93 engine wiring harness and 8 bit ECU. This eliminates the need for a stand-alone and for my purposes (NA) the ECU will be plenty tunable.

Any suggestions graciously accepted! TIA

dont bother with the 90-93 wiring harness, if you can find a 94-95 engine use the 94-95 wiring harness because the ECUs are all interchangeable regardless of year.
