JDM engine compared to USDM?

I've seen a lot of people swap JDM z32 TT engines into there already TT z32's. There not 2+2's or anything and some of them have good mileage on the original engine. Is there a differences in any way like performance wise between the two engines (JDM and USDM) or are people just doing it for lower mileage?

same engine, and it's not easy to find a good VG30DETT in a junk yard and then they want as much an a lower milage imported engine
