I like the black face clock. How much do they go for usually? I would like to buy one.kimrober wrote:What do you think of this JDM Q45 clock? I'm not sure if I want this because I think the gold clock on our 94-96 is already nice... what's your opinion on this?
That's because G50 Q45 was released in Japan as "Infiniti Q45" from the beginning. "Infiniti" was not a car brand name in Japan, it was just another name for their domestic car. So they don't call it just "Q45" but as "Infiniti Q45" altogether.BlueC wrote:How is it JDM??
Wouldn't say Nissan instead of Infiniti?
That's the one I want!!!! How do I import one? If anyone is buying anything else and can get this in the package, please let me know!kimrober wrote:Or there's always easier-to-get "President" clocks
The G50 Infiniti Q45 was released in November of 1989. A year later, Nissan introduced the JG50 Nissan President. The Q45 was always known as the Nissan "Infiniti Q45" in Japan.maxnix wrote:Why would JDM clock say Infiniti? I think Q45 was always a Nissan in Japan, like other model variants.
My clock doesn't say "infiniti" on it.But I do have infiniti badging, and my Q is most definitely JDM.So I guess it was sold as an infiniti over there too.maxnix wrote:Why would JDM clock say Infiniti? I think Q45 was always a Nissan in Japan, like other model variants.
Are we sure, though? Just as we like what is JDM, JDM likes what is exproted and not available there.Q451990 wrote:There were apparently many Infiniti badged G50s sold in Japan. If you browse Japan's Yahoo auctions you'll see plenty of them...

It's funny I had to quote myself but name "Q45" itself has no meaning in Japan. The car is called Nissan "Infiniti-Q45" and that's the name for a particular car, NOT a brand. You can easily tell how Japanese car makers like to put a name for their car instead of some numbers and letters. After G50 based "real" Infiniti Q45 was discontinued in Japan, while "Infiniti" brand was established in States with "Q45" as their part of line up, they had to come up with some kind of flagship sedan in US for thier Infiniti line up. That is how Cima cars got to US with Q45 badge on it since bringing "President" to US was not very cost effective way. Perhaps this would change since their main competitors bringing high-end sedans like LS460, New 7 Series etc... I would like to see Nissan to start bringing their real flagship sedan to US, aka the "President."kimrober wrote:

But now it is only a gussied up Cima. Remember in Japan, the G50 was still the upper level car over the Cima.kimrober wrote:I would like to see Nissan to start bringing their real flagship sedan to US, aka the "President."

I don't ever recall seeing a Q45 designated as an Infiniti in JDM. But I could have missed it. The FY33 Q45 and the F50 Q45 were Cima, never Q45 in Japan.
And if the G50 was sold as an Infiniti (which was an export only brand), why were none of the other "Infinitis" sold as such?
Actually (maybe you're already aware, I'm not sure...) both the current Cima and President use the F50 chassis and are nearly identical. The only difference is exterior trim and possibly some interior items. Our Q looks more like the Cima than it does the President, though.maxnix wrote:But now it is only a gussied up Cima.
