I like JDM because my car is Japanese and it is feeling homesick.

that was nice. cause all i could think when i was reading this thread was this is just one big circular argument.

That's cuz that thing is a pimp-mobile, Stickers. Kidding. I get it. It does matter to me how it looks though. I don't mean I want my car to look like some incarnation of an Akira bike or a Gundam Fighter or something. I mean that I want the car to look as clean as it can. I don't like dents, I don't like dirt on the inside. There is a big difference from that and trying to make a honda civic look like a skyline (which I've seen, just imagine a 10 or 12 piece body kit, lights and all). I agree with you too, Annunziato. There definately exists an anti-trend, trend. It's more a trend of thinking, but even then some people that follow this don't really understand the logic behind it. We could go round and round about trends and it being trendy to hate trends or whatever. My main reason for making this thread was to get people thinking. Particularly the people who say things like: JDM is a way of thinking. It really isn't. Of course, you could argue, as many have, that JDM parts are more precisely engineered and/or performance oriented and therefore represent a way of thinking. However, the fundamental truth about it is that JDM is an acronym for car parts made for sale in Japan. Nothing more, nothing less. The value of these parts is entirely up to you. Unfortunately, the JDM trend that's sweeping the auto scene is jacking-up the prices of these parts far beyond their practical worth. Thanks downshift. PEACE. Tek.

I say that if some one wants to do something to their car that is their own business. I personaly like jdm parts but the next person might not, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Tek I agree with you 100% when you say that retailers are jacking up prices because of the JDM hype. Never before in my life have i ever seen someone ask 2, 3, up to 5 thousand dollars of a 1986 toyota corolla, let alone seen anyone willing to pay that much (thank you initial D). but thats where the trend is taking us right now. Remeber when Altezza lights were almost $300, or when clear tails were the in thing to do. It is a burden on people who just want something, lets say silvia headlights, or a new motor. These are expensive to begin with, but now you really have to pay for them. In due time though it will fade away, and something new will emerge... like akira bikes, i like the akria bike. I guess i should get one now.:D

I like JDM part...only because our car is originally from Japan. Since, Japanese made them, I think they know best about our cars(240sx....other nissan infinitity car....etc). That's why I buy JDM parts. If I own an American car, I dont think I will be a fan of JDM part. I dont see any of my friends who own mustang use JDM parts like us do. But my case is mostly performance parts tho. Also, the truth is most JDM performance parts are better quality over USDM parts...at least for our Japanese made cars. Another reason, look at our truck ka engine. Why do you think every one is trying to get JDM sr engine to swap over it? so they can get red or black cover on it? Nah...it is the original engine for the car and has better performance. I dont think ppl will try to get sr engine, if our ka engine was as good as sr.... Simply, I think ppl are trying to make the car as it should be or what it is suppose to be. Forget about the accessary stuff. JDM performance parts has been always proved by many mechanics and technitions. Also, it is not everyone use JDM only. I go for whatever the part is best in each brand or company in their catagory. For exmaple, I have APEXi Catback but I have B&M short shifter because they are the one of the best in their catagory. I do agree that JDM part are way more expensive than USDM parts. But the one of reason why ppl are trying to get the JDM parts are sometimes they are one of kind!! Like the kouki taillights for 180sx or 240sx FB. No one else makes them and it is one beautiful piece. I would love to get one too even tho it is mad expensive. When this happens, you have no choice, if you want it, you have to pay whatever they want.Basically, my opinion is there is reasons why ppl buy JDM stuff and you can't just over look at them like some JDM addicts....also one more thing, not everything becomes trend, I think trend only works when it has some sort of quality or good thing about it other wise, ppl won't go for it...especially when hell lot of money involves.....this question sounds like asking," why do u buy Japanese cars over American cars?" to me.....they are everywhere in U.S. Ask this question to any American who owns Japanese cars and listen what they say. Period!!

When I first got my 240 hatch, the first thing I did was buy the half & half turn signals, 180SX quarter windows, 180SX center panel and JDM Sparco rims... why? I really don't know, where I live it's mainly Honda tuning and I think one of the main reasons I pulled it off is because I knew only real Nissan fans would get it and know what it was... and it worked. I'd be sitting at a gas station and someone would ask me if it was a 180SX (nevermind the LHD). I thought it was awesome that someone actually knew what a 180SX was in a Honda dominated area. Then I threw the Skyline front on and it got even more obscure and a pain in my pocket... so I'm going back to the simple 180 design... which reminds me, HCR32 sheet metal up for grabs soon! Hehe.

wow....what an incredible thread. this really made for some good reading. i think part of the attraction to JDM parts is people what a look that distiguishes them from the rest of the similuar cars...but at the same time they was a clean factory quality. i think the love for JDM parts is a reflection of good taste. there are some people sad to say that would opt for altezza style taillights over the 180 x tails....believe me i remember people asking where they could find them....now the two groups are the same in the aspect that each wants something different....just one is chessy as hell looking ( i don't think i need to explain which) but it is a matter of preference and priorty....as much as i love the 180x tails i still have yet to buy them....mainly because i spent a large amount of my budget on thing that can't be seen. or atleast not while the car is parked. i have replaced some parts with cosmetic items mainly because i had to so...might as well get what i find asthetically pleasing to MY eyes....thus the eastbear headlights....don't get me wrong i would like to do more to the cosmetics (i'm not knocking those that have) but my priorties went toward handling first, then power, as last looks. trends change with time and some of our older members are responsible for the current trend in 240s and drifting.....was it a trend then....NO....but 240s and drifting sad to say have become extremely trendy but will it make us stop loving out cars.....NO....as 240sxed up said hating being trendy is trendy also.

All I know is I love speed, and the feeling you get from being lauched from a complete stop to 60 in only a few seconds, and your engine screaming as loud as it can as it inches past the other guy. I put on my car what I like, whether it be what someone else has and I liked or what I just decided to throw on there, I am going to be running with the ka24 engine, call me stupid, but hey I dont have 2grand to hook up a sr20. Might be nice but hey, thats how life goes. weather you are a trend setter or a follower should not make you be judged as anything different than the other guy or girl. I say do what you want and makes you feel good, if putting on what noone else has makes you happy go for it, if doing what everyone else has do that to. Theres got to be some reason why everyone is going for it.

The thing to remember is you make follow what someone else likes but down the road are you still going to like it when that person leaves. Its like wearing a popular pair of jeans, Its popular but it ends up being really uncomforable, yeah you may wear it a couple of times, but eventually you will stop likeing it.Go for what you feel is the best for what you like.
