Hey all... just got my ka rebuilt and when I was screwing in the metal attachment that the return line to the heater core goes to on the block and a small crack developed ... I may have tightened it too much, I don't know , but it made a crack down 3/4ths of the threads and on the outside..it's very small.. see the picture below. It's barely leaking coolant and I don't know if I should trust jbweld.. I have never used it before. I want to have it professionally welded so it will never have a chance of leaking again...I want it to be sealed up. This pic will show you the location but I may have to get one that's closer up so you can see the crack, but for now, here's this one.

jd weld is good up to a certain temperature. going from hot to cold to hot is not good for Mr JB. also underpressure a few times, it will simply crack again. JB weld is good for quick fixes. but i would have it welded so u dont have to go through taking ur Manifold off, also u will not really be able to see that part of ur block.

psi like jb alot.

Welding cast iron is hard. You might not be able to get it welded. JB weld will do the trick I have seen people use it on their heads. Its on my radiator right now. Just make sure the surface is clean and scratch it up a little bit before you apply the JB weld. Also make sure it is 100% dry.

Good luck.

Hello, thanks for your replies... I have a welder scheduled to come next week and weld it. Bigga, I figured exactly what you thought would happen... it might crack from so many temp changes. I'll try to get a better picture... I may go over and mess with the car again tonight and i'll take one. Or I will see if I can find a good pic of the intake side of a ka block and show you what i mean.. my friend suggested that i wrap the threads with teflon tape.. i wrapped it around all the threads twice and started screwing the fitting in... a tiny crack on the right side started to open up and I wasn't even doing it that hard.. I believe that putting the teflon tape on the threads made it crack. It really didn't need any in the first place. What do you guys think? btw i will post a better pic up soon.

I'd HIGHLY recommend having it welded.

It needn't be pretty, and you can always slather it with JB after the fact, but I have had terrible luck with JB.

well he welded it up good and put some JB weld over it just to be extra sure. I looked closely at the fitting and you can see that the threads are tapered very slightly...i guess the more you screw it in... the more it pushes the hole open. Does anyone know where I can get a picture of the intake side of the block with the intake manifold off??? I just want to see what the fitting looks like.. how many threads are showing ... if anyone could point me in the right direction i'd be greatful . thanks.
