Did anyone watch this? The Diane Sawyer interview wasn't too graphic but at times it was hard to watch. [Its on the 'bay' with the 'pirates' if you want to download it.]

Short version:
11 year old girl is abducted by a pedoph:le and his wife in the daylight in 1991.
She is locked up and raped for 18 years, having two children with the rapist.
Despite visits from parole officers, cops, and 911 calls from neighbors, law enforcement fails to save her.
It took two campus police officers to ask the guy basic questions and figure out what was up.
She received $20 million from the state of California.

She seems reasonably well-adjusted and peaceful but you can tell there's a void.

I remember when that whole ordeal came out. Pretty hard to believe. Also hard to believe is the $20 million she was given. Fascinating stuff.

I am more disturbed that the guy's wife helped him abduct her. Clearly the guy has a legitimate problem, but his wife had no reason to go along with it. Also, why even jail the dude? It seems clear that he will never be able to function as a normal member of society. And I don't see any way he can contribute anything meaningful either. Save time and money and just end it.

"Honey, what do you want for your birthday?"

"Well, there is something, but....no, nevermind. I couldn't ask you for that."

"No, it's your birthday. I'll get you anything you want. Is it expensive?"

"Well, it's free, actually."

"Then name it and it's yours."

"Really?"

"Yep, anything."

Please don't encourage me.

What happened to this poor girl is a tragedy and should not be the subject of my particular brand of @sshattery.

Double-win for recognizing that sometimes inappropriate @sshattery is spectacularly funny, regardless.

I'm with Bonk - a quick large-caliber slug through the wack-job's brain stem will allow everyone to move on and heal.

God bless her and her parents for their strength and courage.

And I'm usually adamantly opposed to the death penalty. In this situation, however, I don't see any possible argument against it.

Also, I did watch the entire interview. I spent the entire time scratching my head trying to figure out how people get away with crap like this. Apparently, people had called the cops informing them that children were living in the backyard of this guy's house. The cops knew he was a CONVICTED pedoph:le. And still they failed to thoroughly investigate. Effed up.

I watched the whole thing. It made me sad and angry for what she went through and what she missed. I cried for her and cussed the computer when they showed that mother f***'s picture. I hope that man is bunk mates with a serial rapist who likes 60+ year old men.

There were 60 parole officer visits to the house while she was there. sixty. SIXTY. She was in the house once when the parole officer was there and he didn't even say anything to her, didn't even acknowledge her existence.

When the sheriff's deputy came by concerning the complaint about children living in the backyard, he didn't even go inside the house. He just stood outside on the porch and talked to the man. Then he got in his car and drove away.

Castration by a rabid rat seems to fit the crime. Televised and un-edited of course.

The biggest thing that pisses me off is the fact that parole officers came to the house multiple times and didn't check the felon's property once! His parole officers need to lose their jobs and be incarcerated as well.

I feel so sorry for the woman, she may never be able to trust a man or anyone again.
