I have been trying to determine if either of these latest designed JATCO CVT transmissions (came out in 2012) are in the new Rogue. Looks like the Altima received the CVT8 in 2013.

The difference between the two is the amount of rated torque allowed.......the 8 more for larger vehicles (chain drive), the 7 for 4 bangers with less torque (belt drive).

According to what I read, these new designs eliminate a lot of the noise/failure issues that Nissan had, but IF they are not implemented in 2014 Rogue production, I will likely pass on this car.

Does anyone know because the dealers in my area either don't or are skirting the issue.

Jatco CVT: RE0F10D 2014 FSM - TRANSAXLE & TRANSMISSION
Nissan's '14 Pathfinder has the chain drive CVT, the Rogue does not.

Not sure that answers the question since the Nissan CVT has ALWAYS been belt driven and so is the new CVT7.

Thus the Rogue is belt driven either way ...... with the old transmission or the new one........does ANYONE know?

He answered your question. Out of the 2 new CVTs you mentioned the Rogue has the belt version (same one used in the new Altima).

Thank you for clarifying the answer that I did not understand.

A new owner would likely not know what REOF10D was!! ;-)

BTW, the answer you were seeking was in your original question.

Why the mystery and diversion....just answer the question or ignore it........my first experience with this forum is not that stellar.

I'm not seeing the "mystery and diversion." You spoke about the two types and he linked you to the service manual (which gives you a very detailed overview of the new transmission) of the CVT in use on the Rogue. Seems like good service to me.

As often seems to be the case, the question was partially answered with some misinformation sprinkled in to confuse the issue.

As to the specific question of CVT7 versus CVT8 - the 2014 Rogue has the belt-driven version of the CVT8 (as RogueOne posted, that's the RE0F10D designation). There are actually two versions of the CVT8 - one is belt driven (model # RE0F10D) for QR25 applications and the other is chain driven (model # RE0F10E) for the higher torque output of the VQ35.

The CVT7, launched in 2010, is apparently intended for "lighter vehicles" and has a max torque rating of 133 lb-ft, which is obviously exceeded by the QR25 (in the Rogue, 175 lb-ft).

Nothing could be further from the truth.

The question has been answered. And the answer has been clarified. Rehashing the subject is not helpful. This topic is now closed.

First, I will say, as a new member, locking a thread because the moderator thinks the discussion is over, is ridiculous.

And as the title of this and the original thread was CVT7/8, my question was never really answered. There is nothing in the document provided that indicates that the CVT described is even the one in the new 2014 Rogue.

According to JATCO, the CVT8 has 2 models JF016e and JF017E and the CVT7 is JF015E, thus the "answer" of JF010E would indicate some other transmission.

Since I was trying to insure the Rogue has the latest technology, the "answer" was not sufficient and the thread should have not been locked.

The thread should only be over when the author, not the moderator, say it is.

I would like to thank Rockhound2.0 for the private message providing the information and clarification.

My private message capability has not been "turned on" to respond directly.

I would be interested in the source of the information provided, so that I might contact my dealer with supporting documentation for the issue.

If he/she could respond to my email ([email protected])directing me to the source documentation, I would be appreciative.
