i just wanted to give everyone a heads up about the company on ebay by the name of japaneseengineimport. i was dumb and bought my rb20det off of ebay and didn't get it running in time to leave feedback but the motor has been nothing but trouble. after i finally got it running i found that the MAF was blown, so i replaced it. then i found that the turbo was leaking like crazy, so i replaced that too. shortly after, i found that i had low compression in cylinder #2 and #3. so now i'm in the proccess of replacing the head gasket. now according to the head shop i am using to resurface the head, i may have to replace my rings. bottom line, PLEASE DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH JAPANESEENGINEIMPORT!!! please don't make the same mistake i did. i will get this thing running but, trust me, you do not want to spend the amount of money i have.

I understand your frustration dizzy but I've purchased about six motors from JEI and they were fine.. The 30-day startup warranty is standard, and though everyone claims to check the comp ratio... nobody actually does.

You could always call Phil at JEI and he may understand your dilemma and cut you a nice deal on a motor or something, who knows..

Long story short, JEI is my preferred vendor for sr20s and the two RB25's ive purchased were great... Just check your s*** out/get your car running before the 30 days are up..

Some vendors will even make exceptions to awfully nice customers... so this post was pretty stupid of you as it will benefit you none, and will have little effect on people purchasing engines from JEI...

The lesson is, don't purchase an engine from eBay. Call the company up, tell them what you want.... Most companies do not "hand select" the best engines for eBay sales...

i disagree

i purchased my engine from ebay and it was FLAWLESS. you just need to know who you are buying from, their history and reputation. where the engine is sold has nothing to do with those factors.

I don't know what most people's impression is of what the engine acquiring process is for these companies that sell them stateside, but from seeing people buying motors from junk yards here a lot, I seriously doubt they do any testing of any kind, or even ever see the cars running. I can about guarantee all they do is go find a car in the yard, get the motor if it looks okay on the outside, and yank it. 90% of those motors are good enough to run well.

phil is a stand up guy, i've known him for years and buy all of the swaps i do from him. honda toyota and nissan. i've sent everyone that asks me about swaps to him and he treats everyone very well. it sucks that your maf was bad but have you thought that because you drove the car with the maf not functioning correctly that you may have damaged the engine? i used to work next door to jei at a body shop and have actually seen him do compression checks on the engines. i'm not blaming you im just saying that maybe there are other factors to consider. how much did you pay for your swap?

get what you pay for. the only thing i can say is i work for jdmhookup and yes sometimes there are problems(we've never had a compression problem) but turbos and MAF's go bad. just the nature of things, but they should send you new parts are atleast refund you the money it would cost to repair the engine. in your case you should send it back and they should give you a new one. good luck man

if you get your money back and are looking for a new engine look up jdmhookup.com, were in the midwest.

i purchased my rb25 from ebay and had no problems with it at all so far. i did the research on the seller before i made the purchase and for me everything went well. to me getting a engine is like rolling the dice.
