I found a seller on eBay who has some really nice receivers in Japan. From my understanding, an adapter would have to be purchased in order to get an AM/FM signal in the US. Does anyone know what kind of reception they get with the adapters? Are there any other issues I should be concerned about? Here's a link to the unit I'm considering:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...&rd=1

I don't know if I want to spend this much money, but the thing I like about it is it has a memory card slot that allows you to play MP3s directly from the card and to also record songs onto the card, too. I like the Sony unit I have, but think a double din would look better.

From the research I did whe I was looking to buy a non-US MD player, the only thing you need to do is use an adapter for the frequency adjustment. Keep in mind you will lose part of the frequency range regardless.

Why is that? I've seen converters that start at 88, but only go to 102 and others that start at 96 and go to 106. Why can't there be one that covers the whole frequency range?

From what I understand the frequency range in Japan is "narrower" and the converters basically change the existing range to a new one, but can't expand and convert to cover the entire range???

This unit is a total waste of money. For that much you could probably get a nice 6.5" tv with navigation.

Where could I find a unit with the options you've described for that price, or less? Keep in mind I want a 2 din unit, not a single din that has the LCD slide out. Those are fugly IMHO. I was on the Sony Xplod site (www.xplodsony.com) today and see they have a new unit coming out soon. It's a single-din, but has 1 gig flash memory and the detacheable faceplate plugs into a USB port to transfer music to it! ESRP: $299

Sony Xplod is total garbage.

If you are that picky about having a double din, then I guess this is the unit for you , lol.

I actually like having a storage compartment under my radio, for cds and remote, but I guess to each his own.
