Post

Hello all. I'm new to this group. I just bought a 99 Nissan Terrano Regulus. I've been told it's the same model as the Infiniti QX4. (I know the Terrano is the same as a Pathfinder.)
I'm trying to figure out if it is a 99 or 99.5. I'm not sure if they made the change here in Japan, but it may still have an effect on parts I order from the States. What can I look for that will help me figure it out.

Thank you.

Welcome to NICO!
The Infiniti QX4 is a mid-size luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) introduced in September 1996 and based on the unibody Nissan Pathfinder. In Japan it was sold as the Nissan Terrano Regulus. The QX4 received its first major update in 2000 for model year 2001, with a new VQ series engine (also later seen in the G35 and FX35) increasing its power from a relatively low 168 horsepower (125 kW) to a 240 hp (179 kW) V6 engine. The displacement went from 3.3 L to 3.5 L. The timing belt was replaced with a timing chain and the ignition distributor was replaced with an individual coil ignition system.

This facelift also gave the QX4 an updated exterior and interior body style, including features such as a new dash with integrated analog clock, 17-inch (423 mm) alloy wheels and xenon HID headlamps. In Japan, the Terrano Regulus trim package was no longer offered. Also, a rear-wheel drive QX4 model was added (1997 through 2000 were only available in 4WD).

Then, see this page to determine model year: pathfinder-qx4-general-information-and-q-a-t549378.html

Thank you for the replies and information.
A couple of things that are strange...no sticker with the usual information found on stateside cars and mine has the HID headlights, but 16 inch rims and no clock. I'll try to translate my title and look for more information in the engine compartment.

I have another question...Mine is 17 years old, but only has 51K miles on it. Any typical issues to watch out for? Thanks again.

I got lucky with some parts I ordered from the US. Seems it's a 99.5. Thanks for the replies.

Check out the how to section here and it will give you a lot of good information. The main problems with pathfinders seem to be rust, sensors going bad, and a couple different suspension issues that cause vibrations or swaying. AFAIK the engine and transmission is solid.

Is your clock just not working or is there literally no clock. The clock has an easy fix.

There are several ways to tell, but easiest is 4wd shifter.

In USA, 97-99 had 4WD on a shift stick, next to Automatic gear shifter. 99.5-00 had 4WD on a switch, and a very large cupholder next to gear shifter (in place of stick shift for transfer case).

Another way to tell is window tint. 97-99 had mirror tint, while 99.5-00 had black window tint.
