No reason to post this in 3 different forums, nor is it vehicle specific. ;)

I doubt that because there is crisis in Japan that it'll mean higher prices for motors, etc. Especially now that people are going to be afraid that they'll be getting a damaged motor, car, or parts. I thought this had already been talked about in another thread....

I heard a "rumor" and probably is just a rumor that the entire subaru head quarters and most of its facilities got wiped... that would mean probably less 2012 vehicles being produced as well as the remaining 2011 vehicles not being exported... The mess in japan is porbably only going to effect most NEW japanese vehicles. Most parts are already in the states or atleast out of japan. the mess in japan adds to the rising prices of almost everything. With egypt, libya, and all the middle eastern countries in a mess everything has been going up anyway

^^
Highly unlikely.

Subaru is located in Gunma Prefecture. I'm sure they felt the earthquake, but they're entirely landlocked and thus any crippling tsunami damage is...er, unlikely.

They'll stop production for awhile, but I *doubt* the headquarters just ceased to be.

No, I think we might see a few temporary shortages of certain models assembled there, but not immediately. Many of the bigger selling Japanese models are made in this country.

One of the pictures I saw of the aftermath showed what looked like hundreds of mostly white G35/G37's washed together in a pile on the port's docks. It will take a while for Infiniti to build up the inventory (covered by insurance?) but pales in comparison to the losses of the Japanese people.

The manufacturer that I know most about will slow production on some models made in the US because some critical components are made in Japan until a local supplier can spin up producion. Some of the larger V6 models use components that are mostly US made. The larger vehicles are exported from the US only sold to countries with left hand drive Parts not made in the US in most cases can be outsourced with a local supplier. One manufacturer has a workable Business Continuity Plan for US operations that calls for periodic supplier readiness tests as planning for some catastropic event like we see now.

The reason I ask..., my other half had plans of buying a new vehicle. We were looking at buying a Armada or maybe even the Infiniti shadow model. This summer we had plan to buy but, I'm thinking maybe we should purchase a different make SUV or if we still decide to get the Nissan then our best bet would be to buy now. Do we buy now or buy something else?

Infiniti will not sell you anything that has been engulfed in water and/or damaged. I don't think you need to worry about anything. There is WAY too much risk in knowingly selling faulty goods.

Exactly. the only car sales market that should be concerned is the local used car market in Japan itself (not the US). Local Japanese used car buyers will need as careful the same way American used car buyers were following Hurricane Katrina, where large numbers of cars in the New Orleans area ended up submerged. Some of those damaged vehicles were cleaned up without being properly fixed, auctioned, and made their way to other parts of the country to be sold.

If you're in the US, seeking a new Japanese car, you should be fine.
