So what's the deal? Is http://www.japanmotorimport.com a good company? I'm buying an SR20DET soon and I don't want to be burned.

Its in canada and i have never heard of it. There are so many ****-hole places looking to rip you off, do you really have a reason NOT to go with a reliable source?

Money~

I'd love more than anything to go with Heavy Throttle of Phase2 but I can't really afford it yet.

I would really rather buy from a company over an individual person...

you can try zero lift. I got my sr from them. good stuff or night seven, but the guy I talked to there was a little pushy. Also, there's this place on ebay, that's called rick's raceup or something like that. They seem to be pretty Legit. I mean, the best way to check, is to get their phone # or address and then look it up on yahoo, the first person I was going to buy an sr from ended up being a cell phone. Anyways, just research, I'm parinoid what can I say. Also, people can bash me for this, but as far as I've heard most of the sr places in Canada are ****.

NIght7 is not a bad place to go thru. Cameron treated me ok although a little on the pricey side, I got a beautiful s13blacktop that runs strong and compression was near perfect. I would do business with him again.

i got my redtop from 'japan star motors' or search for 'nagano japan motors' for 1100 shipped with no intercooler and no winring harness.... then when my ecu ended up being busted (more than 1 month later) they promptly and happily refunded me $100.... not quite enough for a new ecu, but 1000 for a engine shipped was good enough for me...... it had 44000km (very very clean) these guys get other engines too..... they have 2 offices, one in canada and one in virginia...

I am considering buying from Canada too. I've been to SON240sx.com and someone recommended me talking to a member called slipperysilvia. Anyways, during mid March, I am going to Toronto Ontario for spring break. I plan on looking at the motor before I purchase it. The guy sounds legit and i have his phone # and everything. I found out that he is located in the same area as my relatives. He said that it'll be 2400cdn, so about 1800 us. i've also found a place called A1JDMMotors located in Toronto Area also. only problem is their motorsets do not include ignitor chips but slipperysilvia's do. If you want, I will forward the replys from both sources to you. A1JDMmotors quoted me shipping, tax, and packaging to be 350 US. so... pretty much about 2150 shipped. Sounds like a good deal guys?? Im still not sure If I should go with these two sources or pay the extra money and go with enjukuracing, heavythrottle, etc. But man... saving over 600$ sounds really good to me! :ylsuper :D

Oh yea, how much did you guys get your motors for? That would really help me decide who to get it from.

i was pretty happy from japanstar.... ended up $1000 shipped (canada to FL) no harness, ignitor, or smic..... all of which are not that hard to get anymore.... i got a q45 ignitor for $40 from the scrapyard, and $350 for a new harness from projectnissan (wonderful operation too).

Loudbay: Does japanstar have a website or contact number? Do you have any pics of the motor before you install?

Morph: Total Boost site does not work.

I'm sure you've asked but try Venus Auto. The shipper not having a liftgate is a problem though. Vicki said that there trying to work something out with another shipper so that might help. I ordered a SR20DET front clip from them no problem at all. And i'm getting ready to order another one from them in a few weeks.

wow,

These prices I see are crazy! sounds really really sketchy though. Im not saying you guys are lying but damn! I thought 2150 shipped was a hell of a deal. What are the exterior conditions of the motors your getting? Is there anyone else that bought from these companies also? Anyways, I am going to be patient and wait until I go to toronto and see how slipperysilvia's motors are. I'll take a bunch of pics to show proof of how legit this guy is. If i don't like the conditions of his motors, I'll look into buying from one of those companies. There should be a sticky for good motor sources.

I got my 92 front clip from Venus Auto. The engine and transmission had 60,000 Km on it. Everything that I needed was there. No complaints about it at all. I got the clip at wholesale price for $1600 that is including shipping.

MY ENGINE LOOKed really clean.... and i'm sure that they don't do a cleaning to them because it still had oil, transmission oil, and all of the wax pencil marking that said s13 on it everywhere..... and i asked them for the youngest one that they had only 44000km.... and very good customer service.... $1100 shipped.... i also bought a 13b-turbo at the same time, so they may have hooked me up a little bit...

loudbay: I checked nagano and it is still the same price. do you have any compression test results from your motor? I believe you can purchase the extra stuff(wiring harness, ignitor) from them also correct?

I think it'll be cheaper to find it somewhere else though. Anyways, Im definitely going to keep them in mind. Anyone else order from naganojapanese.com?

Edit: I looked into Totaljdm.com , which is total-boost, and their prices seem very reasonable especially coming from canada. 1650+shipping. about the same quote from my other 2 sources. I believe they have 2 shops. one in western canada and another in eastern. shipping will be cheaper for those living closer to each side. hopefully the eastern warehouse is located near toronto so i can check it out while I am up there.

:thinker THERE SHOULD BE A STICKY FOR MOTOR SELLERS!!Would be really helpful for future buyers.:help :D

I think I'm going to go with Venus Auto, becuase I can get it wholesale price and I can pick it up (They are only located about 45 mins from me). I emailed them and the told me the motor set is 2200, clip is 2500, warranty for start up only, and their engines usually have 45,000 - 65,000 km on them. Not a bad deal.
