What a shame...

Quote »NFL star Jamal Lewis indicted on drug conspiracy chargesDouglass High grad proclaims innocence

Star NFL running back Jamal Lewis was indicted Wednesday afternoon by a federal grand jury in Atlanta on drug conspiracy charges. Lewis, 24, a graduate of Douglass High School in Atlanta, is accused of conspiring to distribute cocaine from June 23, 2000, until July 19, 2000.

The indictment, unsealed at 4 p.m., charges the Baltimore Ravens football player with one count of conspiracy to intentionally possess with the intent to distribute cocaine. A second count charges Lewis with using a cellphone to carry out the conspiracy. The indictment says the conspiracy involved "at least 5 kilograms of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine." Lewis is innocent of both charges, his attorney said. "Jamal Lewis denies any involvement in any criminal activity or any activity involving drugs," Atlanta lawyer Ed Garland said Wednesday. Lewis' co-defendant, Angelo Jackson, was to appear in court for his arraignment. Lewis will surrender to authorities and appear in court at a later date, said Garland. This past season, Lewis had the second-best single-season rushing total in league history and also set the single-game rushing mark with 295 yards against Cleveland. With his size, speed and power, Lewis is one of the NFL's premier players.[/quote]i hope he's innocent, and apparently the evidence they have on him is that he said "Yes" on a cell phone. Plus, the charge is Conspiracy to Posess with Intent to Distribute. It seems to be a case of being dragged down by those around you, and i hope thats all it is...

At least we know he hasnt been doing it, at least this season... When you have a 295-yrd game, they test you for everything often. From what i've heard for a long time, he's seemed to be a class guy.

Hopefully, he's innocent, but if he's not, selling is worse than doing it.

It's must be wonderful to root for a Ravens team with such wonderful role models like JLew or Ray "what knife?"Lewis.

See, it's so easy to believe exactly what you heard that one time on TV... spend some time and learn about what happened in Atlanta with Ray Lewis incident before you bring that up.

Although, if it's true about Jamal, it makes the NFL look dumb.

innocent until proven guilty please?

No f*** that who said they are role models? where did they sign up for this. people make them out to be role models when they shouldnt be. THey aren't doing anything heroic or noble. They arent doing anything that makes the world a better place. They are entertainers. They are doing there job. just because there job is in the entertainment sector doesn't mean they should be role models. They are human like you and me with faults and character flaws. I hate that role model Shiat. no one should be considered a role model because of their job. no one ever calls the guy cutting your grass a role model.

Didnt mean to go off like that but the term role model gets to me.

instant, yes.

Just because they play there doesnt mean they're role models... I live in Charlotte.

Carolina Panthers.Rae Carruth - Hired three people to kill his wife and unborn son, wife lived, got to hospital, told cops, son survived. Rae - Prison.Jarrod Cooper - Massive drug penalties, one strike away from automatic NFL suspension.Steve Smith - Kicks people in the head during games, tells lame reporters from his own city to **** off when asked about said kicking incident, punches his own teammates, and hsa a DUI.

Charlotte Hornets

Derrick Coleman - Got upset in a restaurant, so naturally, he stood up and urinated on the table.

Bobby Phills / David Wesley - Decided to race on a highway with no seatbelts. Phills died.

Anthony Mason - punched someone, dont remember the details.

They never are supposed to be role models, but I'm curious now, what team do you pull for? There are scumbags on every team, so your statement is hypocritical, assuming you are a sports fan.

(Scum on the ravens - Suggs. As much as I like his play, he did beat a guy in the head with a pole.)

oh, and take this lightly, i dont want to start a war here.

I agree, lighten up on the role model flaming stuff. Sarcasm is a wonderful device but only WHEN ITS RECOGNIZED.

That's pretty funny about Derrick Coleman. I didn't hear about that one. I guess you could say he's a basketball whiz?

Isn't that acceptable behavior? That's what I usually do. If I'm at a restaurant and the pasta isn't quite to my liking, I just stand up and take a piss on the table.

You see what lots of money and a sense of power will do to people who never had any of either??

yeah athletes get stuck hard for shiat like that. He had the chance to do remarkable things on an advertising level(lewis and lewis? come on) but just like kobe it's nearly impossible to recover from this, doesn't matter if he did it or not. But then again his teammate is like the most marketable guy in the nfl (sans mcnabb/vick) and he was on trial for murder.

I love the Ravens man. Sure they're a bunch of thugs, but that's kind of what I like about them. They're what the Raiders used to be and wish they were (which being a Chiefs fan, makes me happy)

I dont think four guys turns them into the Raiders of the east, but the chiefs definitely are the raiders of the midwest.

Morten Andersen is a gangsta. Him and **** Vermeil are part of the largest drug smuggling ring in the midwest.

Man, I hadn't heard about that. Where have I been. But, that is the funniest thing I have read in a long time.

I remember living most of my life in Knoxville, TN (urgh !!!) and of course following the University of Tennessee Volunteers (since that was all there is to do there besides cow tipping) and knowing about Jamal's past even before coming to UT.

This might enlighten you, especially down towards the end of the article.
