Does anyone know of a reputable online dealer who sells Jaguar parts/accessories? My girlfriend has decided, in honor of Ford crapping up the Jaguar name, to put the leaping cat on her '91 Ford Escort.

So, I'm in search of a reasonably affordable OE leaping cat hood ornament.

Errr...yeah...that's all.

I was thinking something like nissanwholesaleparts.com (look left) or Courtesy Nissan, but for the Jaguar crowd. Of course, the cost of the cat might end up being more than the entire car is worth. ;)

They don't end up in the junk yards, they sit in the garage under a car cover and create an ever-expanding oil stain on the floor. ;)

Thanks for the info, everyone. I'd go the Ebay or Google route, but it's too easy to get ripped off when buying from a random merchant.

Sticking the cat on the old Escort would probably be too expensive to justify. I've also been trying to talk my GF out of buying or leasing an X-Type. The only Ford-related product I'll even consider buying is a Mazda, and even then I fear that the Taint of Ford will spread to them too.

I've never had a problem with a Ford engine, it's the rest of the car that was pure crap.

My 1987 Tempo was plagued with electrical problems that were never straightened out, it was only 4 years old when I bought it and never really ran properly.

My fiance's 1991 Ford Escort was the only car I've ever seen that had snapped springs (which of course obliterated the shocks too). It's not like she was autocrossing this thing (which was previously owned by her 50+ YO father)...it had < 40,000 miles on it at the time.

Add to that the near record number of recalls on the Focus (how's that for a milestone)and some poor JD Power numbers, and I wouldn't touch a Ford with a ten foot pole.

I think it's a common fallacy to link up an auto manufacturers history and past accomplishments with the current state of their products. 100 million or 10 billion V8 engines, Ford's still not building a quality product right now, IMO.

Would you be upset if someone stole the $1 plastic valve stem caps off all of your tires? I know I would be. It doesn't matter how much something costs, but if someone takes something that's rightfully mine, I get pissed.

I remember when I was in junior high and it was cool for all us punk kids to jack hood ornaments. I wore a Cadillac one tied with a shoe string around my neck, and thought I was a pimp. We tried to get a Jaguar one time, and the thing was practically welded onto the hood. My friend stood on the hood and stomped on it, wouldn't budge. Came back with a bat, still wouldn't budge. We eventually gave up.

The thing about Ford is that they are just cheap cars in general. They do every last thing they can think of to save a penny. I was working on a Ford Probe one time, searching forever for the fill plug on a manual transaxle. Turns out you have to remove the speedo cable to fill it. Less holes to cast and less plugs to buy means less money spent on production. And in a run of millions of cars, I guess it adds up. I always thought it was funny how alot of their intake manifolds look like mini fire extinguisher shells with tubes welded on.

I wouldn't laugh at you or your girl for the Escort or for the hood ornament, I'd be laughing with you for the crazy a55 idea. Crap cars are fun to screw with.

Ok, I'll start off by saying that I don't agree that Ford crapped-up Jaguar. They brought something to the brand that in the past had only been a dream: reliability.Although I'm no expert on them, I've worked and driven the newer models, and I have been impressed. On the other hand, when it comes to the pre-88 and older jags, specifically the 68-87 XJ6 series I-IIIs which many regard to be the purest Jaguars ever made, I do believe I have the authority to speak on. Yes, Jaguars in general are known for reliabilty issues. (Oil issues, burning valves, fuel system, brakes, I could really go on for hours...) But when it comes to these cars, the end justifies the means, so to speak. All the times, work, matinence, repairs, and money put into these cars is worth it to have one on the road. I, myself, have owned three of these cars. Thousands have been spent to keep them in the shape they deserve to be in, yet I don't regret spending a single dime on them.

I may be speaking for myself, but, if I knew of someone that had vandalized my car, they would get what was coming to them. Because, yes, we do actually give "3 flying fvks" about our cars and the accessories on them.

toki, with somewhat due respect, I doubt you've ever even parked next to a Jaguar, let alone have any say on them. We bought a name? No, we bought a car with an 80 year pedigree. Can you say the same? Ugly? Your opinion, nothing more. Underpowered? Certainly not. I suggest you do some homework before contributing more garbage to this thread.

Now, in regards to your search for a leaping cat, BadMojo, I'd suggest coventrywest.com, welshent.com, or terrysjag.com. But if I were you, I'd get one off eBay. May not be reputable, but one can be had there for much less than buying one from a parts supplier, even JC Whitney. Good luck!
