Hello all,

I have a question for the seasoned Altima modifiers that I have been unable to answer. I have a 06 2.5 that has a horrible reverse rake. I replaced the front springs/struts with the Monroe QuickStruts. In essence I have new struts with new springs meant for the v6. There is something like a 2.5" difference between the front and the rear.

Now I don't mind the lift in the front, as long as I can match the rear. I am NOT interested in lowering the front at all being that I like the added ground clearance as silly as it may look. I also can not afford an air bag system or something that will cost me big $$$. I would like to know if there are springs out there I can get that will lift the rear to match or get close to the front. I am talking about a 2" some odd lift here. I tried coil spacers, the don't work due to the gaps in the springs.

Sorry for the long post, any help is greatly appreciated.

The problem is that you are using springs meant for the 3.5 on your 2.5. That means that the springs up front are made to support more weight because of the heavier 3.5 engine. So because you have a 2.5, the front will be lifted higher than its supposed to be. The only way to fix it is to get springs made for your 2.5.

Indeed I am aware of the difference in the 2.5 and 3.5 springs. Which is why I am looking for a solution for the rear if someone has ever attempted it; something like a spring swap from a Maxima or something or a non lowering sport spring with a higher spring rate.

You're playing with fire for a couple reasons -

The struts/shocks are valved and tuned to match the spring rates for springs equipped on the 2.5. If you use 3.5 springs, they have different spring rates.

Your problems at first look are relegated to the look. You will eventually blow out your shocks and struts in addition to shredding tires and working over suspension components like bushings, tie rods, etc over time.

What I have outlined above is the case if you have four matching sets of springs. You do not, which compounds all of those issues. It also makes for really bad vehicle response with the front and rear being so out of whack, say for example in the situation of making emergency maneuvers.

I would have never bought the damn QuickStruts if I had known they were for the 3.5. To my defense, I bought them from RockAuto and they only had one part number for them. I should have realized there may have been an issue. I was just trying to save time on the installation. Either way, if I were to buy some new (lowering) springs for the front, would that mess up my new struts? Which are obviously going to be a bit more compressed than are now. Again I am on a tight budget and can't exactly afford a full lowering kit with coil overs for the front and new springs out back to match them all up.
