Hey all, so I have been delaying installing my stillen pulley since the last time i tried and broke a socket trying to get the damn OEM off.

I want to give it another shot and am looking for an easier way to jack the coupe up instead of using the stock jack from the trunk. I put a pic of the jack I have below and want to use it with my coupe, but I'm nervous about placing the disc in the wrong place and snapping something under the car.

(its same idea as this, not exact though)

So, where is a good place under the car to brace this thing??

Could someone post some pics of the exact placement please? I've been thinking about getting one of these jacks but, like Rob, am not sure of the best place to put it...

I will post pics in a few minutes. My brother helps me whenever I work on my car (he's a mechanic, so I can double check with him) and he showed me where to put the floor jack.

and x2 on jack stands you shouldn't put yourself in a dangerous position to save about 30seconds.

If you read your manual, there is a spot that discusses the jack points - under the car next to each wheel well, there is a spot where there are two "teeth" cut out in the frame where you should be placing your jacks.

i saw this, and this is exactly why i'm asking this question. the jack i WANT to use has an EXTREMELY larger area than the OEM jack that fits nicely into those 'teeth'. If there happens to be pressure somewhere its not supposed to be, it could be bad news.

And yes i'll be using jack stands, i'm not planning on going under my car, i just need to take the wheel off and dont want to use the PoS OEM jack.

As long as you keep the jack in that general area (and not on the side skirts) you're fine - you're jacking up the frame at this point, and structurally you are not going to have any issues doing this - I have 2 floor jacks at my house and I use both of them to change my oil, as well as using them to get the car up to paint my calipers (3 times...).

Realistically, putting the jack anywhere along that line is going to be fine to jack the car up - you're right on the frame. Putting it in the middle would just do nothing helpful for you lol.

Consider also the lifts that some shops use that place long beams along that line too - you're doing the same thing with your jack. Like I said, as long as you have the jack on that metal bar and keep it clear of your side skirts you'll be golden

Well in the spirit of that there is also something else I do when jacking up the a car. If I know I am going to be working underneath it for a while, I stick the wheel underneath it(assuming I had to take it off to do what im doing).

I read it in popular mechanics a while ago. I figure that the wheel is about as big as my head so it an accident happens I have a better chance of cheating death.

the car also has a jacking point in the middle of the car at the front (as specified by the FSM). it is difficult to see as it's hidden by that plastic underneath the engine, but it's located just in front of the catalytic converter. note that it is only for using a service jack (like the one in the picture), and not the jack that comes with the car in the trunk. also the jack size is limited because there is only a small space between the lift point and the cat.

figured i'd throw this out there since it saves a bit of work

I'm not sure I'd use the jack point designed for the oem jack with the floor jack you pictured. The oem jack actually presses on either side of that ridge, and your floor jack will be pushing on the ridge of metal itself. That could bend it because you're putting the entire weight along a very narrow line.

You should use the jack point in the FSM or just jack up where the control arms at each wheel where they meet the body of the car. It's a unibody car...there isn't really a frame in the traditional sense.
