i hate jacking 240's up. the FSM jack points are next to the oil pan, which is next to impossible to reach. i was wondering if might be OK to jack from the part of the body where the radiator is supported? are there any downsides? it looks harmless.

my neighbors jack gave out when she tried to change a flat tire..it was a standard floor jack...and my buddy tried to change a flat on his ****ty intrepid and the factory jack didnt just give out...it blew out... scared the **** of every1...the car just fell and a piece of the jack was at least 15 ft away in the grass...

point to be made...use jackstands if ure gonna be under there..even for only a sec.

I just use a couple of 2x4's. Put them in front of your tires and drive up on them. It's a lot easier to get a jack under there and it's cheap.

Yes, and I was asking about an alternate route, my alternate route being the area where the radiator is.

I'm confused as well, but a little differently. On my S14, the factory jack you're supposed to use on the metal lip underneath the body panels? I wanted to change my oil this weekend, but the only experience I've had with jacking up a car was our 59 Impala. Ten times easier.

What looked to be frame rails felt like plastic-y stuff, and I didnt even wanna try using them to support the car. Changing a tire is one thing, but I need to get under the car. Where are the jack and jack-stand points on this thing?

I have always found it easiest to place the jack stands under the suspension A-arms. This is a solid piece of steel and very stable. It will work well for any work you need to do under the car, unless you are doing suspension work that requires the suspension not be compressed.

so where would i place a jackstand if i did have to do suspension work..like a 300z brake upgrade.....Seems like every place i jack the damn area bends. The FSM indicates that flat area w/ holes in it for jackstands...but the thing bends. Where do you jack the car and any other suggestions in placing the jackstands besides the A arms? thanx

You'll have to place a hunk o wood in between them soo u can increase the surface area... think of an elephant w/ high heels:icesangel get the pic?

For the jack point near the oil pan, turn your wheels. I do that and slide my jack in (from the door side not towards the front end) and start to lift the car. Another thing you can do, is from the rail. Line up your jack about 3 inches back from the 1/2 way point of the length your door. Slide your jack under the rail and you can lift. Do not be alarmed at the sight of your car getting on 2 wheels, you can put your jack stand at either the front or the back from that point. The jackstand will act like a fulcrum on a teetertotter from that point until you get the other jackstand in. You may be a bit uneasy doing this the first time, but it works fine in tight spaces where you cant access the front jack point.
